Revealed: Barcelona Could Have Signed Unsettled Real Madrid Shot-Stopper A Few Years Ago

The La Liga domestic season was a rollercoaster ride for the two arch rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid as Zinedine Zidane’s side managed to lift their first league title in more than four years on the final day of the season.

Now both teams are looking to make some improvement to their squad and might be fighting for a particular player among themselves.

The likes of Marco Verratti are wanted by both clubs but it is now often that the two clubs fight for one player.

The likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta were never targeted by Real Madrid while the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema were never in the radar of the Camp Nou outfit.

Ironically, there have not been many players who had to snub one club for their rival but one player Barcelona could have signed a few years ago is Costa Rican international Keylor Navas.

Currently unsettled at the Bernabeu, thanks to a mediocre season on goal under Zidane, Navas might be pushed out of the first team next season but is still one of the most reliable goalkeepers in Europe.

However, it is now revealed that the Catalan giants could have signed the shot stopper a few years ago.

Speaking to the media in a recent interview, Keylor Navas’ agent Ricardo Cabanas revealed that he approached Barcelona to try a persuade them to sign Navas but claimed that they were not ready to spend on a Costa Rican player.

Speaking on Costa Rican tv show Encuentro Deportivo, vía AS,, Cabanas said, “I came [to Costa Rica] in 2008 after watching some videos which [Luis] Gabelo Conejo had given me and I spent a fortnight watching the national team’s training sessions.”

“I was watching a video of a match between DC United and Saprissa – it was amazing and I thought to myself: ‘Who’s that keeper? I was spellbound by him.

“I gave all of them detailed reports and videos and all of them turned me down.

“One of [Pep Guardiola’s assistants] told me: ‘He’s a great keeper, Ricardo, but no one is going to sign a goalkeeper from Costa Rica -at least no big club,” he added.

Do you think Navas would have been a hit at the Camp Nou?
