In what was a very unexciting and uneventful 0-0 draw, Swansea City and West Ham United left Liberty Stadium sharing a point each on a very rainy evening at Wales.
Swansea : Vorm; Rangel, Chico, Williams, Taylor; Britton, de Guzman; Michu, Dyer, Routledge; Alvaro
West Ham United : Jaaskelainen; Demel, Reid, Tomkins, Rat; Diame, Noble; Nolan, Morrison, Downing; Vaz Te
Swansea were boosted by the return of captain Ashley Williams, making his first appearance in more than a month after suffering an ankle injury, while West Ham were unchanged from the side that lost 3-1 to Manchester City last week.
It was a overall a dull afternoon though it was raining heavily at the Liberty Stadium with West Ham United creating the better of the chances and forcing Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm to make quite a few saves. Stewart Downing was the main asset for West Ham in attacking sense having got some good shots on target and barring the Swansea goalkeeper’s antics could’ve won West Ham United 3 points.
Ravel Morrison, the former Manchester United youth star, also contributed in the attacking third for West Ham United and even narrowly missed getting himself a goal when he shot just wide from 10 yards old.
It was mainly a game of Michael Laudrup’s men failing to create much upfront in terms of any attacking threat to West Ham’s goal while counterpart Sam Allardyce will have been disappointed by the Hammers’ wastefulness in front of goal.
Flores drew a point-blank save from Jaaskelainen was the only effort of note from Laudrup’s side during a first 45 minutes which the Hammers controlled thoroughly. The midweek Europa League tie might have been having some effect on the Swansea players in terms of fatigue physically as well as mentally. Though Vorm was good overall there was a howler by the Dutch keeper when he fisted a clearance towards his own net and was only spared embarrassment by the athleticism of defender Angel Rangel, who cleared.
Both managers did try to shuffle things up in attacking sense with substitutions but they were not good enough to break the deadlock and the match ended in an unspectacular way with a point to each side.
