They might be fierce competitors, trying to outdo each other, trying to be one up than the other but that doesn’t mean that they don’t help each other. When Messi and Neymar needed assistance a certain Portuguese was there at their disposal.
It is a well know fact that the duo from Barcelona doesn’t speak English and when the three took the stage on the day of the Ballon d’Or, Ronaldo was there to help the two in overcoming the language obstacle. On the night of 11th January Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the fifth time with Ronaldo ending as the Runner-up and the Brazilian goal machine finishing 3rd.
The Portuguese was more or less prepared for Messi taking home the award for the fifth time given Real Madrid’s lack of trophies last year and when asked about his experience in the ceremony, the Portuguese talked about his new found profession as a translator. “Before the gala, on the stage, I was a translator for Neymar and him [Messi]. I told them they would have to pay me” joked the 30-year-old paceman.
It might have been the night of the Catalans with Luis Enrique too taking the award for the best manager, but the White knight surely won hearts for his gesture!
