Shocking: Man United star furious after his shirt number given to Ibrahimovic
Anthony Martial seems to have mocked his club Manchester United following the Old Trafford giants decision to give his No.9 shirt to new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
According to latest reports in France, United didn’t even inform Martial that they are giving his number to Ibrahimovic this summer and it looks like he hasn’t reacted too well to the news.
The 20-year-old apparently changed his cover photo and profile picture on Facebook after the squad numbers were released – and both images are surprisingly dominated by the number nine.
Manchester United revealed their squad numbers for the 2016/17 season on Thursday and it was announced what numbers new signings Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as well as Ibrahimovic, would be wearing.
Bailly was handed the No. 3 shirt and Mkhitaryan received the No. 22 jersey while Ibrahimovic interestingly got Martial’s No. 9 shirt, which saw the young French forward switch to No. 11.
“Bad taste, tact, consideration from Manchester United who gave the No. 9 to Ibrahimovic without an agreement with Martial,” RMC chief editor Mohamed Bouhafsi tweeted.
Regardless, he looks set to don Ryan Giggs’ famous No. 11 shirt for the upcoming season whether he likes it or not.
The French attacker recently named as the most valuable U-21 player in the world, according to a report by Soccerex.
The study, which uses Prime Time Sport’s Football Value Index, has valued the 20-year-old at £39.7million after an impressive debut season at Old Trafford.
Martial scored 17 goals in 49 appearances for the Red Devils and was also part of the France squad which reached the final of Euro 2016, only to be beaten by Portugal.
Many labeled Martial a ‘panic buy’ when United completed a last-minute £36m deal – which could rise to £56m – last summer but the young striker has proved the initial speculations wrong.
