The new season of the Premier League started off with some cracking fixtures, some brilliant football and quite a few breathtaking goals.

Only two teams secured home wins as their were wins for six of the away teams and the remaining two encounters finished in 2-2 draws. Both these draws featured cracking goal and we begin out list from one of these matches that took place at Leicester City‘s King Power Stadium.

5)Aiden McGeady vs Leicester City

It was in the 20th minute of the game that the scoring was opened. Aiden McGeady had taken the corner but it was cleared out to Leighton Baines who shot from range. The ball made it’s way to Republic of Ireland man who curled a fantastic shot past five Leicester defenders present in the 6 yard box and a stranded Kasper Schmeichel who had come off his line.

4)David Silva vs Newcastle United

David Silva opened Manchester City‘s account for the season in a similar fashion to that of last year when he was teed up by Edin Dzeko for a second consecutive time against Newcastle United. Yaya Toure‘s long ball found Dzeko in the box but it also attracted the two Magpies centrebacks towards the Serb who had immense presence of mind to back heel the ball into Silva’s path for the Spaniard to take a touch and slot the ball in between Tim Krul‘s legs.

3)Lee Cattermole vs West Bromwich Albion

Lee Cattermole struck a screamer from about 30 yards after a half cleared freekick fell for him outside the area. The midfielder took one touch to set the shot before finding the top corner with the game only 5 minutes old. It was just his second goal in six years having also scored against Spurs back in April with a long range goal.

2)Andre Schürrle vs Burnley

After Burnley took a surprise lead against Chelsea, the Blues repsonded with two quick fire goals, the second of which was a beauty scored by Schurrle. Branislav Ivanovic found Cesc Fabregas in space just outside the box and the Spaniard took just the one deft touch to direct the ball in the German forward’s path who applied the finishing touch past Tom Heaton. The goal came after 25 passes by Mourinho’s side, more than any goal scored in the Barclays Premier League last season.

1)Ki Sung-yueng vs Manchester United

Ki’s goal also had more passes in the build-up than any Barclays Premier League goal last season with 29 and was the first goal of the new Premier League season. Nathan Dyer‘s passed to Ki across the edge of the box and the South Korean slotted a first time finish past David de Gea into the bottom left corner of the net.
