Van Gaal eye Real Madrid star to bolster defence, NOT Ramos
Manchester United seems to be willing to start another ‘fight’ with Real Madrid, this time van Gaal is interested in the services of Pepe.
The controversial Portuguese defender is not getting a place in Rafa Benitez’s master plan as he started only 6 La Liga matches for real in this season. The astonishing form of Raphael Varane has relegated him to the bench and would welcome a chance to catch the headlines in the next winter market linking with a big club like Old Manchester United. van Gaal also does not have many options after failing to bring Sergio Ramos in the summer transfer window.
The Portuguese defender is well known for his aggressive style and could adjust perfectly in the fast-paced and physical style of Premier League, also providing some much-awaited expertise at the defence for Manchester United.
Reports are saying that van Gaal already contacted Pepe and assured him a regular first eleven appearance with much more responsibility for the Red Devils. The Dutchman knows that to build a champion team he should reinforce all the departments, first priority being defence. After failed attempts to seize Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos, now United are targeting the Portuguese defender.
The main problem with Manchester United to gain the services of Pepe is Florentino Perez. The Real Madrid president believes United played very dirty in David de Gea deal. Keeping that in mind, Real hierarchy already made a strategy. Pepe will not be allowed to leave for a lower figure than £40million. To make the deal more difficult, Red Devils are willing to pay closer to £20million.
