Manchester United celebrated their first home win of the new campaign under their new boss David Moyes as they beat 10 man Crystal Palace by a 2 – 0 margin with Robin Van Perise and Wayne Rooney scoring for the home side.
The home side came out with the first goal of the game as Robin Van Persie scored from penalty on the 45th minute. The underdog visitors faced disadvantage as they swallowed a goal at the edge of the first half whistle and a man sent off. The second goal came from the right foot of Wayne Rooney from a free kick.
The last time these two teams collided on this ground was on the League Cup in 2011 where Crystal palace who were on the 2nd division shocked the World when they defeated Manchester United by a 1-2 margin.
The home side made three changes from the last game to their starting lineups as injured Phil Jones got replaced by Fabio, Tom Cleverley, the flop of the last game had been replaced by Anderson, and Ryan Giggs got replaced by Antonio Valencia.
Only one changehas been made by the away side as Adrian Mariappa was introduced in place of Joel Ward.
The home side dominated positions from the very beginning of the game but could not create enough chances. The away side kept defending, they had only one decent chance to score which Dwight Gayle chipped a little wide. Manchester United started to make attacks in ‘real sense’ from the 36th minute started with Evra’s pass towards Van Persie back heeled well wide by the Dutchman. Just after three minutes, the Dutch forward had another chance to score but his shot was denied by the cross bar. Then came the moment of controversy when Dikgacoi tackled Ashley Young inside the penalty box to give away a cheesy penalty and get sent off. Van Persie made no mistake to score from the penalty.
Manchester United kept dominating over the visitors as they got the advantage to play against a man down team. They created so many chances, but Palace really defended well to hold on to the same score line until Wayne Rooney scored the cushion for his team from the free kick won by the Belgian wonder kid Adnan Januzaj.
United could have add more goals but Crystal Palace defended really well, though, they lacked in offense.
Next week, Manchester United will visit their ‘Noisy Neighbors’ Manchester City at the Eithad stadium and Crystal Palace will host Swansea City at Selhurst Park.
