Samuel Eto’o was in Qatar to cheer up his beloved nation, who were returning to the World Cup after an absence of 8 years, when they failed to qualify for the 2018 edition. Cameroon didn’t disappoint in their comeback at the FIFA World Cup finals, drawing one, winning one and losing one of their three group games. And the victory against Brazil, wherein Vincent Abubakar scored an injury time winner from a counter-attack would just have been a parting gift for their fans.

However, during their qualification campaign, there was a lot of talk and controversy around Cameroon’s win over Algeria in the two-legged play-off. The Indomitable Lions were trailing 1-0 after the first leg of the two-legged affair, with the second leg to be played in Algeria. Rigobert Song’s men staged a stunning comeback as they downed Algeria 2-1 in their own backyard, to progress through on the away goals advantage after the aggregate score was tied on 2-2.

The game, however, was headlined by some harsh calls from referee Bakary Gassama, who was slammed by the Algerian FA following their elimination. The Algerian football association’s president resigned as a mark of protest and fury, as the FA then lodged a formal complaint to FIFA, arguing the officiating was rigged and that the tie be replayed. While FIFA didn’t entertain the complaint, it seems the Algerian YouTuber, who got hit by Samuel Eto’o had irked the former striker by asking him whether they had “bribed” Gassama for the Algeria game. Here is the video clip which captured how Eto’o reacted.

The former Barcelona forward, as can be seen, brutally attacks the Algerian YouTuber, and even thrashes him in the head and face. The YouTuber, who runs a channel by the name ‘sadouni SM’, revealed what he said to Eto’o on his channel later, as he told:

“I’m at the police station to file a complaint against [Samuel] Eto’o, he hit me and someone else with him pushed me and destroyed my camera. I asked him how is Bakary Gassama [the African World Cup playoff referee], and if he gave him a bribe, he hit me and destroyed both my camera and mic, I know I will take my rights here in Qatar as it is a state of law, he did hit me in the chest and the face and in my elbow.”

Eto’o, the all-time top scorer of Cameroon national team with 56 goals, also led the team at one point and made a total of 118 appearances for them between 1997 and 2014. He also helped them to 2 Africa Cup of Nations titles, and played at 4 World Cup tournaments, scoring 3 goals.
