Championship club Wigan Athletic have reportedly made an audacious bid of  £3 million for Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford.

The 22-year-old had been regarded as one of the most promising youngsters around England following his fine spells with Milton Keynes Dons and Middlesbrough. However, the striker struggled in the Premier League last season while on loan at Crystal Palace and then Norwich City. With Bamford failing to prove himself at the highest level, Chelsea are believed to be ready to offload the striker this summer and Bamford also wants to prove himself away from the Blues.

According to reports in Daily Mail, another championship side Aston Villa have also shown interest in the striker and it is expected that Roberto Di Matteo’s side have a chance of persuading him to join them with Wigan’s attempt likely to fail at this stage.
