Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s agent Mino Raiola has revealed that the doctors who operated the Swede’s knee were shocked and are ready to do a research on him once he retires.
The Swedish striker had suffered a horrific knee injury last month when Manchester United played Anderlecht in Europa League’s quarterfinal clash at Old Trafford. The 35-year old recently underwent a knee surgery at Pittsburgh in the United States and is expected to be back in action only next year.
Raiola, who is also an agent of Paul Pogba, has revealed that the operation was a success and has reiterated that Zlatan would be back on a football pitch amid speculations that the injury has ended his career as a professional footballer.
“His knee is so strong that the doctors said they had never seen anything like it,” Raiola told Swedish newspaper Expressen.
“He has a knee that it is almost impossible for a football player with a 20-year career to have. It was quite clean, there was no harm in it.”
Zlatan was an instrumental figure in Manchester United squad as he was their talisman in front of goal for most of the season. The loss proved to be a massive blow for the club as they have since then lost their way in the top four race and are currently looking to win Europa League which will provide an alternate route to Champions League next season.
“Zlatan is so strong that the doctor wants him back after his career to research on him. They work in the world’s best research institutions for the knees and ligaments. They research a lot on the subject and that is why they are better than everyone else. And the doctors want back Zlatan to do research on him.
“So after Zlatan’s career, we will go back and open him up again to do research on his ligaments,” he added.
Ibrahimovic will now start his rehabilitation in the United States and will be looking to restart his career as a footballer again. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be back at a big club in Europe or continue his career in MLS.
