The Indian men’s hockey team lost to Spain in the first match of the three match series in Spain last night. It was a disappointing performance by the Indian team who played some poor hockey in the match.

In the first quarter India and Spain both started off on a cautious note. Spain scored the first goal in the 10th minute when a striker scored the goal to give Spain 1-0 lead. Soon after India’s SV Sunil equaled the score at 1-1 in the 12th minute. At the end of first quarter the scores were equal at 1-1.

In the second quarter both teams tried to score goals but the efforts went in vain and scores were still equal at 1-1.

In the third quarter Spain played some excellent hockey and once again took the lead in the 7th minute. Spain earned a penalty corner and corner was converted by striker to give Spain 2-1 lead. Spain controlled the proceedings for the rest of quarter and led 2-1.

In the final quarter Spain looked in no mood to show mercy and scored two more goals. Spain scored in the 6th minute and 10th minute to give the hosts 4-1 lead.

India needs to raise their game in the second game which will be played on 12th August. The strikers need to take chances and need to perform much better.

Spain are 10th ranked while India are 8th ranked.  Lets hope that India come up with good performance in the second game.
