Hockey India selectors are likely to announce the men’s hockey team for Rio Olympics on 5th July. The two-week national camp will start on 11th July said the chief coach Roelant Oltmans.
“ The national selectors are likely to meet on July 5 to pick the final squad for Rio Olympics”, Oltmans said in a release.
“ We will start the national camp on 11th July which will be two-week camp after we leave for Madrid to play two friendly matches with Spain and then head to Rio and have friendly with Spain and New Zealand,” he added.
“ The Indian coach believes that the team has entered into a very exciting period in the lead up to the Olympics.”.
“ Starting 5th June the team will away for almost a month playing two different tournaments in two different countries. Everything we do in this period will be demanding not mentally but also physically ,the high-performance director of director of Hockey India said.
“ Though we are entering into an exciting period and looking forward to the Olympics seeking to peak at the Olympics , it is important to take rest off for a week and be in a different environment.
The Indian team will go to the Champions Trophy squad with P Sreejesh being the captain. It is a six-nation tournament against top nations from 10th June.
The Champions Trophy bound squad will take a week’s rest before rejoining the camp on 29th May.
