The Indian women’s hockey team registered their first win by beating Poland 3-1 in their third group match in World Hockey league semi finals played at Antwerp, Belguim. It was a good performance by the Indian team, but they missed too many chances to score goals. (Image Source : Hindustan Times)
In the first quarter India dominated the match. They attacked the Poland defense and never allowed them to settle. In the 13th minute India earned their first penalty corner but was well saved by Poland defense. At the end of first quarter it was 0-0.
In the second quarter India dominated Poland again. In the 5th minute Poland scored the goal but India reviewed for hitting the foot Poland player and the decision was reversed. Few seconds India made an attacking move and earned their 2 penalty corner’s in succession. The 2nd penalty corner Rani scored the goal to give India a 1-0 lead. India attacked more but missed too many chances. In the 14th minute Rani scored an open field goal to give India 2-0 lead. At the end of 2nd quarter India led 2-0.
In the 3rd quarter India played some excellent chances but was not able to convert chances into goals. Poland tried to enter their attack, but India was alert to the task. At the end of third quarter India led 2-0.
In the 4th quarter Poland began well with an attack. In the 4th minute Poland scored a field goal when Zagazaki helped them to reduce the marigin to 1-2. Poland made an attack in the 6th minute but was well saved by Indian goalkeeper. In the next few minutes India dominated. In the 8th minute India’s Rani hit a shot and was well deflected by Vandana into goal to give India 3-1. Poland made an effort to put pressure, but did not succeded. At the end of match India won it 3-1.
With this India opened their account getting three important points and will play Australia next on 27th June
