Uttar Pradesh trashed Dabang Mumbai 5-1 in Hockey India League match at the Mahindra Stadium in Mumbai today. It was an excellent performance by Uttar Pradesh where as Dabang Mumbai were no match in either converting penalty corners or scoring field goals though they played some good hockey in form of circle penetration and shoots at target.
In the first quarter of the match both teams played some good hockey but were not able to cash on to the chances. At the end of first quarter it was 0-0.
The second quarter began off to good start for Uttar Pradesh as they put pressure on Dabang Mumbai goal. In the 10th minute UP Wizards tried a shot but was well saved by Adraian D Souza the UP goal keeper. In 11:09 minute Ramandeep converted a field goal to give UP Wizards 1-0 lead. Soon in 11:42 minute Dabang Mumbai earned a penalty corner but the shot was hit well wide off the goal post. The very next minute Mumbai asked for a review for penalty corner but lost their review. In 12:34 minute UP earned a penalty corner but they also could not convert hitting the shot wide. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 1-0 in favor of UP Wizards.
The 3rd quarter was the most exciting quarter of the match. In 1:20 minute Mumbai tried a field shot on goal but was well wide n right side of the goal keeper. In 3:06 minute striker Ramandeep hit a shot near the circle and an excellent deflection from Nikhil Thimmaya gave UP Wizards a 2-0 lead. In 7.25 minute Mumbai tried another penalty corner shot but was hit wide. In 8:20 Mumbai earned another penalty corner but was again hit well wide of goal post. In 10:48 minute Adrian D Souza saved a powerful shot. In 12:30 minute Bob De Voogd hit a reverse flick from the “D” to give UP Wizards a 3-0 lead. In 13:01 Mumbai earned a penalty corner that was not converted but another penalty corner awarded in 13.12 which was well saved by Sreejesh. Then came an opportunity to Mumabi team where Glenn turner gave the pass to Jermey Hayward to reduce the gap to 3-1. In 13:56 Mumbai goalkeeper saved another goal. In 14:48 minute Bob De Voogd hit another reverse flick shot to consolidate the lead to 4-1.This quarter saw totally 4 goals. But eh Mumbai’s conversion rate at this stage was only one out of 5 penalty corners as against 1 out to 2 from UP Wizards
In the 4th quarter Mumbai made a good move in the first 30 seconds but was well saved by Sreejesh. In 3.20 minute Sreejesh made another good save. In 3:50 minute Adrain D Souza goal keeper of Mumbai made a good save from shot by Ramandeep. In 4:20 Sreejesh made another save for UP. In 5.20 minute UP wizards asked for referral successfully and retained their review. Raghunath converted the penalty corner into a goal to give UP Wizards a 5-1 lead. In 5.45 Mumbai earned another penalty corner but was hit above the goal post. In 8:30 Mumbai missed another chance to convert the goal. In 10.08 seconds UP wizards missed a chance. In 11.05 minute Mumbai earned another penalty corner but was hit well wide off the goal. In 13.19 minute the shot went wide off the target. In the last 20 seconds Mumbai missed 2 penalty corners. Over all Mumbai Dabang Mumbai earned 8 penalty corners out of which 1 was converted. By winning this match UP Wizards has taken a step close to enter into the semi finals.
