Indian men’s hockey team coach Roelant Oltmans said that the Indian team are par with the top teams in the world. The team won they are first ever silver medal in Champions Trophy losing to Australia in the penalty shootout.
” Oltmans said that the biggest positive from the Champions trophy has been the team is making good progress and showed that we are almost at par with the top teams in the world. The Indian team should play good hockey in the upcoming matches which are very important going into the Rio Olympics.
He also said that the Indian team conceded too many penalty corners in the tournament against Australia. Overall our defence was good as we played different defence structures which are quite a positive going into the future.
The Indian team have improved mentally as the team won two matches. The team performed very well against Australia in the finals.
The team will be taking part in the six-nation tournament starting from 27th June. Germany, Argentina and Ireland have been grouped with India in Rio Olympics. New Zealand and Spain will also take part. It will be an important tournament as will be a good tournament as top six nations will take part.
Rupinder Pal Singh and Sardar Singh will be making a comeback with the team after being rested for the Champions Trophy tournament.
India have done well against top teams in the world beating Netherlands, Germany in the previous Champions Trophy held in Bhuvneshwar. India won a bronze medal in Champions Trophy in 1982.
India needs to be at their best if they have a chance of securing a medal in Rio Olympics.
