Teun de Nooijer

Netherlands star Teun de Nooijer is one of the greatest ever Hockey players to have hailed from the Dutch country. He is Explosive, has the pace and skill, poses deceptive body, accurate with his passes and finishing, De Nooijer has represented Netherlands in 453 matches at the top level. In his 18 year long career, he had won two Olympic gold medals, a World Cup and three FIH Player of the Year. He wore the Jersey no.14 shirt in honour of Netherland’s finest footballer of all time Johan Cruyff.

Former Pakistani left-back Sohail Abbas, who is one of the deadliest drag flicker in the sport earns a spot in the list of Top 5 greatest hockey players of all time. He has scored a whopping 348 goals in 350 matches for his country and has the tendency to convert Penalty corners with ease, He is the all-time leading goal scorer in hockey as he surpassed Netherland’s Paul Litjens record of 267 goals. He is also the first man to score 300 goals and holds the record for scoring most number of goals in a calendar year when he scored 60 goals in 1999.

Netherland’s Paul Litjens has been named in the Top 5 greatest hockey players of all time for his terrific goal scoring record he maintained. He was the leading goal scorer from 1982 to 2004 as he had pouched 267 goals in the 117 matches he played. He was also a Penalty Corner specialist.

Ric Charlesworth:

The speedy, visionary inside forward had the ability to turn around proceedings in a flash and was a prolific scorer for good measure. Charlesworth was player of the tournament as well as the top scorer at the 1986 World Cup when Australia finally won a global title and was an influential player for the Kookaburras for a large part of the Eighties. There are many arguments that he is on par with many legends of the game. 

Dhyan Chand:

I the past, he was to the people what Sachin Tendulkar is now. He was literally treated as the god in India and made the likes of Adolf Hitler look up to him with his playing skills. Nicknamed “Wizard” for his superb ball control, Dhyan Chand is said to have scored more than 400 goals during his international career (no records of the goals). He led India to three consecutive Olympic Golds and made India as the most dominant team in the World. Arguably the best hockey player till date. He is above the rest of the players in the list of top 5 greatest hockey players of all time.
