Striker Akashdeep Singh says that the Indian team realizes the importance of World Hockey League Semi finals starting on June 20. The Indian team does not to worry about the Olympic qualification. He also said that the team realizes the need of good performances in the tournament. It will help the team to chalk out future course of plans regarding team combinations, how the present stragery will help in the long run and the areas the team needs immediate attention said Akashdeep.
Every player is aware about the job to be done in this tournament. With a good performance in this tournament the team needs to grow and become strong. This team has done wonders beating Australia in Australia, beating Germany, Holland. India finished 4th in the Champions trophy held in 2014. The team has also finished 3rd in the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament. India qualified for the Olympics by winning the gold medal at the Asian games in Incheon, Korea last year. Indian men’s team play their first match against France on Saturday.
The Indian men’s team has to work on the fitness and put pressure on the opponents from the start. The coach Paul Van Ass said that the team needs to earn penalty corner’s and convert the penalty corners into goals which will be a great help to the Indian team. In the practice matches they won against France by 1-0 while lost Belgium by 1-2. The Indian team learnt a lot from the practice and must work the areas which need improvement.
This tournament will give an idea to the team the work to be done before the Olympics. This is great chance for the Indian to prepare well for Rio Olympics 2016.
