Abhinav Bindra to quit after Rio Olympics

Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra has decided to quit after the Rio Olympics starting from 5th August. He will country’s flag-bearer in the opening ceremony at Rio.

“As my sporting career which lasted 20 years draws to a close on the 8th of August, this is indeed special,” Bindra wrote on his twitter handle.

“To be the flag bearer at the Olympic Games is an athlete’s ultimate honor.I am humbled & grateful to be considered worthy of this great honor,” Bindra said.

“I am sure the Indian Olympic Team would have the support of over a billion people as we march into the Rio Olympic Stadium.”

Bindra will be participating in his fifth Olympics. He is only Indian to win a historic gold medal at 2008 Olympics in Beijing at 10m air rifle event. His performances at the international level show that he has done so much for the country.

He is only individual for India to win a medal till today.  He has won numerous tournaments at international including World Championships, World Cups, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games medals. Bindra has been announced the goodwill ambassador for the country. He will be flag bearer for the country in this year Olympics

He is the winner of many awards like Arjuna Award in 2000, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2009. He has been an inspiration for other Indian shooters and hopes that Abhinav Bindra could end his career with a medal for the country.

He has created many records for India and should he win a medal for the country it will be a good achievement for the ace shooter to end on a high.
