Asian Champions Trophy 2016: India drew with Korea 1-1

India drew their second group match against Korea at the Asian Champions Trophy 2016 held at Kuantan, Malaysia. India dominated the match right from the start but could not convert chances into goals.

In the first quarter, Korea made an excellent start to the game as their forward player attempted a shot but Sreejesh made 2 successive saves. In the 7th minute, Korea hit a shot was well wide of goal post. In the next minute, India attempted a shot was well saved by Korean goalkeeper. India almost gave the lead to Korea in the 9th when Jasjit Singh gave a risky pass but could not convert the chance into goal. In the 11th minute, an open goal by Junwoo helped Korea to take a 1-0 lead. At the end of first quarter, Korea led 1-0.

In the second half, India earned a penalty corner in the first minute itself but was well deflected by the goalkeeper. The Korean defence played well and did not allow the Indian players to attack. At the end of 2nd quarter Korea still led 1-0.

The third quarter India dominated right from the start. In the 3rd minute, Nikkin gave the pass to Lalit which he hit with a reverse stick to equal the score at 1-1. In the 7th minute, South Korea earned a penalty corner but was saved by Sreejesh. In the last minute, India asked for a review and earned a penalty corner but nothing happened. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the scores were equal at 1-1.

From the start of fourth quarter India played well but could not convert chances into goals. In the 4th minute, Chingslena could not convert chance into goal. In the 6th minute, Korea was awarded two successive penalty corners and was well saved by Sreejesh. Both teams played attacking hockey but could not take chances. At the end of the match, the scores were equal at 1-1.

India will play Pakistan in their next match tomorrow.
