Geeta Phogat wins bronze in Asian championship

Geeta Phogat won a bronze medal in Women’s freestyle 58 kg category in Senior Asian Wrestling Championship in Doha on Wednesday. It was credible performance by Geeta who did an excellent job by winning a medal at the Asian level where top athletes come and participate in the tournament.

In the bronze medal match Geeta defeated Vietnam’s Thai Loan Nyguen by fall verdict. She had earlier lost to Kaori Icho of Japan the Olympic before entering the bronze medal match.

In the men’s freestyle Hitender has also made to the bronze medal play off round. His bout is scheduled for Wednesday night. These performances by the Indian wrestlers will really help the Indians to perform much better.

This is great news for Indian sports that an Indian woman has participated and won a medal for the country. It shows the power of women in sports and with Geeta winning bronze medal at Asian championship there are chances that India can win more medals at the Olympics 2016 in Rio.
