Branislav Ivanovic Gives First Interview After Ending Illustrious Chelsea Career

Speaking for the first time after ending his illustrious nine-year career at Chelsea, Branislav Ivanovic has said that he is ‘very happy’ to be at Zenit St Petersburg.

The Serbia international enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Stamford Bridge, winning two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League. However, the 32-year old, who arrived at Chelsea in 2008, found regular first-team action hard to come by under Antonio Conte. With David Luiz, Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill looking well set at the back, it was very tough for Ivanovic to win back his starting place and making a move away from the club looked like the best option.

Speaking to Zenit’s website, Ivanovic said : “I can say I’m very happy to come here, and to be at a big club like Zenit, I hope together we’ll have success.”
Asked when he first heard about interest from Zenit he said: “At first I can honestly say I didn’t think about it too much, I had a very big hope to come back to Russia and to play here.

“I am motivated and I think that I can play for many more seasons at the top level.
“I can say that I am excited to be here and everything went smoothly!,” he added.

The former Lokomotiv Moscow defender, who played 377 times for the Blues, had only started six Premier League games this season and his last appearance for the Stamford Bridge outfit came in Saturday’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Brentford.
