Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has revealed that DC captain Rishabh Pant wanted Avesh Khan back at all costs but they couldn’t afford him back as Lucknow Super Giants got him at a price of 10 crores. That’s the only disappointment for them on the day-1 of the mega auction.

Delhi Capitals already retained Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and Anrich Nortje ahead of the auction. On the first day of the auction, they added another 9 players to their squad. Getting back David Warner was the highlight of the day for them as he was also their first player to start the proceedings on the auction table.

They got him at a price of 6.25 Crores. They also got another Australian in form of Mitchell Marsh at a price of 6.5 Crores. Marsh was the player of the match in the T20 World Cup final last year.

“Rishabh Pant is really happy with most of the squad”

Another big buy of the day for them was Shardul Thakur. The Indian all-rounder cost them 10.75 Crores. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav, Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, wicketkeeper KS Bharath and batter Sarfraz Khan are other few names that Delhi Capitals got on the first day.

“Yeah, I think, very satisfied [how the squad has shaped up till now]. I think we have a very good balance.

“We filled up most of our starting XI spots, we have a little bit of work to do going into tomorrow especially in the back-ups and making sure that we have a very good and solid squad. But overall I think we have some really really sensational players to compliment the four retained player,.” Parth Jindal spoke to DCTV.

He also revealed that he was constantly in touch with captain Rishabh Pant and coach Ricky Ponting.

“I have been in touch with Rishabh, he is also really happy with most of the squad. Although he did really want Avesh Khan, we tried but again it went way beyond our budget but I think we have a very good squad that can challenge for the playoffs and hopefully go better,” he added.

Delhi Capitals have qualified for the playoffs in each of the last 3 seasons.
