WWE News: Ronda Rousey To Be Special Attraction On Smackdown After Return
Ronda Rousey is back in the news as WWE announced her to be the latest name in the Total Divas star cast. She will act as major mainstream attention when the show’s ninth season airs on E Network from October 2nd onwards, showcasing insider scoops of her lifestyle. Apart from this, backstage planning is also ongoing around her actual WWE return.
If recent reports are to go by then WWE officials do have a plan on how to use her on TV following the much-anticipated return. According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE officials don’t want former Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey to do a one-off appearance on SmackDown’s 20th-anniversary show. (This is also going to be SmackDown’s debut on FOX Sports on October 4th switching from USA Network)
Rather they want the ‘baddest woman on the planet’ for bigger purposes. Here’s more from wwfoldschool.com,
“WWE wants Rousey to return and get involved in a feud straight away, which will result in a mega match. Word backstage in WWE is that Rousey will work a limited schedule (lesser dates than her previous run) in WWE when she returns from her hiatus and she’ll be used more as an attraction – similar to The Undertaker & Goldberg.”
It’s also evident that Ronda Rousey will be performing at the next episode of Wrestlemania, for sure. As of this writing, WWE hasn’t decided Rousey’s role for the 36th edition of the show set to happen in Tampa, Florida. Becky Lynch is almost locked in to be in a top women’s division match at the said event, next year. But no word yet on if rumored singles match between these two will happen or not.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider also noted on WWE including Ronda Rousey on the Total Divas show for only the obvious reason as she is the biggest draw. Her presence will probably bring a lot of viewers to the show.
“It’s quite simple. She’s a name and they want to use her to try and draw ratings on E!”
“So why is Ronda Rousey around? Well, Ronda Rousey is a name they can utilize to gain attention. Ronda Rousey will get far more mainstream media attention than Natalya or Carmella or Nia Jax no matter how much we might enjoy them as personalities or as wrestlers. They are not mainstream celebrities who are doing Fox TV shows and starring in movies with Marky Mark.”

Additionally, Ronda Rousey does not have to be back to return on TV as WWE already filmed the episodes featuring her. They're just waiting to air the episodes when the show will air from October 2nd.
