In the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC), won their first match in style by 60 runs against Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB). USA women’s bowler Tara Norris was awarded player of the match in the 2nd match of WPL 2023 for her five wickets for the DC side.
India’s opening batter Shafali Verma scored 84 runs in 45 balls with four sixes and 10 boundaries, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra lauded Shafali for her knock and said ‘Verma ji ki beti ne kiya Kamaal (Daughter of Mr Verma has done miracle).
Chopra praised Delhi Capitals’ both opening batters for their knock-
“I said I am finding the Delhi Capitals team very good. They got invited to bat first and after that, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma – they hit so much that you said it was amazing. Verma ji ki beti ne kiya kamaal,” said the former Indian opener.
Delhi-based side in their opening match made the opening stand of 162 runs. Shafali (84 off 45) and Meg Lanning (72 off 43) helped the Capitals post a huge total of 223 runs for the loss of two wickets at the Brabourne Stadium.
“They (RCB) pulled it back a little, but Marizanne Kapp came and Jemimah Rodrigues was there with her, and overall the score went above 200. The bowling was absolutely destroyed. I also felt Smriti Mandhana’s captaincy was slightly 50-50,” he further added.
Australia’s current skipper, Lanning is leading the Delhi-based side, Lanning has the highest number of major International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies as a captain in cricket history by winning five ICC titles. In the recently conducted Women’s T20 World Cup, Australia defeated South Africa to win their third consecutive T20 title under the captaincy of Meg.

“After that Tara Norris. USA’s Chuck Norris was earlier popular the world over, now it is Tara Norris. She is the most popular girl in India, no other American has been so popular because she picked up five wickets,” said Chopra on USA’s pacer.
While in the chase, RCB women managed 163 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Norris picked up five wickets for 29 runs in four overs, while Alice Capsey bagged two wickets with Shikha Pandey dismissing one batter.
In WPL on the 6th March fixture, Mumbai Indians-Women will take on RCB-Women at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. India’s women’s T20 league consist of five teams, and the tournament final will be played on 26th March 2023.
