WWE News: Brock Lesnar’s Current Deal Would Affect UFC Fights
Roman Reigns was the original one to retain the Universal Championship at Crown Jewel. WWE booked him in a triple threat championship match at the Saudi Arabia show. Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar were the two other challengers put against him. But then the plan changed entirely after he was out after Leukemia diagnosis.
Brock Lesnar squashed Braun Strowman in the championship match in Crown Jewel under five minutes. This made him a first-ever two-time Universal Championship holder in the WWE. The beast incarnate was back in his prizefighter position, once again. Fans may have not liked it but it was the best option for the company.
MMAfighting.com has now revealed some interesting news about Brock Lesnar. They reported that WWE made the beast agreeing to a new deal with them. This ensures that he will do multiple appearances in the WWE while defending his championship. It might go beyond Wrestlemania 35 in April which will take place in New York City.
The speculations were that the beast is back to perform in just two matches in the future. Survivor Series was one of them followed by either Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania. With this updated report, it looks like we can see Brock Lesnar competing on both the shows. There could be multiple Universal Championship defenses to make the fans happy.
Furthermore, this new contract signing would affect the UFC promotion scene, as well. The plans for January 2019 was to arrange a fight between Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar. But the later one accepted the deal by Vince McMahon and now might not go to the Octagon for an MMA fight. Thus a dream bout could be pending, forever. Here’s what the source said about the situation,
“The deal does allow him to take a UFC fight, but whether Lesnar really will do that during this contractual term with WWE is a bigger question. And for Cormier, with the sands of the hourglass of his career rapidly running out, and him continuing to say he’s done in March after his 40th birthday, the Lesnar fight is far less of a sure thing than it seemed a month ago.”
Daniel Cormier confirmed closing into retirement, very soon. So the only option left for him would be Jon Jones. In that case, we would see the third edition of this match. Even Jones himself wants Brock Lesnar badly inside the Octagon. But the current WWE deal might prevent the Universal Champion from doing so, not legally but physically.
