WWE News: John Cena Says WWE Does Not Need Him Anymore!
John Cena is the greatest WWE superstar of all-time. Some of the WWE Universe members may not agree with it but Vince McMahon does believe this. This is the reason why the company always keeps this man in the top-most spot whenever it comes to sell out bigger shows. He keeps coming back to the programming despite being away from it for the most part of a calendar year.
Recently, John Cena took part in a conversation to opine on a number of topics in the WWE. He recently spoke with The Wrap to promote Nickelodeon’s new “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” show. In case you don’t know, Cena will be hosting the show, which premieres on Monday, June 10th. The host asked him when his next appearance in WWE can take place.
The 16-time world champion confirmed getting new storylines from the WWE. So he added that it depends on the kind of offers he will be getting through the creative team. Plus, the return should not happen imminently considering that WWE does not need John Cena like earlier days. Here’s what his exact comments were,
“That literally depends on the immediate future. There are a few opportunities that have been set in front of me. If they work out — and I hope they work out — they’ll be wonderful challenges in life and for me to grow as a person, so I’ll more than likely take them. It doesn’t mean that my heart doesn’t lie with WWE. I’ve often said that if I’m doing something like [‘Fifth Grader’] then it’s impossible to do something like that.” (Courtesy wrestlingINC.com)
John Cena got the reminder that Vince McMahon mentioned him during the WWE Q1 2019 earnings call. The Boss actually believed that the absence of names like John Cena or Roman Reigns was the main reason that the TV ratings were an all-time low in 2018 fall. But the former franchise player stated that WWE does not him but he needs them,
“I’m older now. I just turned 42, I watch WWE on a regular basis and the talent is getting faster and more precise. I think I would have left the WWE high and dry, so to speak, [but] now they have so much talent and so many definable Superstars. There was a time when I could genuinely say, from a financial standpoint, they needed me — that time is up.”
The man with Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect added that WWE gave him a chance for a reason back in the last decade. There was a time when Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin left the business. So a newbie like him received a chance unlike now where a bunch of talents are ready to fill up any kind of void. Cena concluded saying WWE’s future is incredibly bright,
“So I think the future is tremendously bright for WWE. WWE does not need me. I need it and I love it, and I love every single moment I’m associated with it. But I felt it the first time this year at WrestleMania: I took a step back and looked at everything and (realized) it is such a powerful machine.”
