Alexa Bliss has not featured in competition for the last five months almost. The last time we saw her in a match was at Hell in a Cell in a WWE Raw women’s championship match. Ronda Rousey retained the title to take over the women’s division whereas her predecessor went into a hiatus from in-ring competition.
However, she has not been absent from WWE Raw programming. She is one of the prime attractions on the show based on her global fanbase. So Alexa Bliss has been on a managerial role which later converted into a talk show host. This week’s WWE Raw has witnessed the second episode of A Moment of Bliss. But there was more than that prior to the talk show.
A backstage crew was knocking on the door of Alexa Bliss to let her know that she was next on TV. He did not receive any reply and entered the dressing room. We witnessed the former champion changing in the room, bare-back. The crew decided to stay in there for a few seconds that showed topless version of The Goddess on TV.
However, she covered her chest and did not show much skin. But still, there were some similarities to that what we have witnessed in the past era of the WWE. So why did the company decided to tease a similar kind of segment on today’s PG era? Veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer discussed the topic on Wrestling Observer Radio.
He confirmed that WWE was trying to bring something sexy to the audience. Adding sex appeal on a glam-doll like Alexa Bliss left the pro-wrestling universe buzzing all over around. The die-hard fans of The Goddess were indeed mad at it which was a matter of concern, too. Here’s more from Meltzer via Ringsidenews.com,
“So the idea is they want to bring back this idea of God only knows what. It’s like old time, old time stuff. It’s like whatever, that stuff’s on regular TV shows all the time too. It was an attempt to do something that was very awkward in execution, but it was an attempt to make things sexy. That’s all that was.”
The video crossed 6 million hits on Youtube within two days which indicates it was a big hit from WWE’s view. This is why they brought a follow-up segment on Smackdown Live the very next night. Here Mandy Rose was the character who called Jimmy Uso in a hotel room and appeared in lingerie! This one garnered attention too hinting that more of such segments might be in-store on WWE Raw and Smackdown.
