WWE Removes Roman Reigns From Wrestlemania 36; Goldberg’s New Opponent Revealed
WWE has now officially confirmed that Roman Reigns won’t be seen performing at this year’s WrestleMania that takes place this weekend. Braun Strowman was named as Reigns’ replacement for the title match against WWE Universal Champion Bill Goldberg. The strangest part of this announcement was no reason was declared whatsoever why the lineup was drastically changed.
Michael Cole made the confirmation that Braun Strowman vs. Goldberg will go down at WrestleMania 36 during last night’s go-home edition of SmackDown on FOX. He did not mention the reason behind the original challenger backing out of this contest.
As reported earlier, Roman Reigns did not compete at the WrestleMania tapings at the PC as he was concerned about his health being immunocompromised during this coronavirus outbreak.
He previously had a battle with Leukemia which keeps his immune system weak and thus the doctors did not want to take a chance and sent him home. WWE also showed full support to his decision at a time when health becomes the first priority for each of the humanity. Thus, the dream Spear vs Spear contest won’t be happening at WrestleMania 36.
It was speculated that Roman Reigns will come out of WrestleMania 36 as the new Universal Champion. With Strowman replacing him, it will be interesting to see whether the Monster Among Men ends up being the new titleholder.
WWE originally had announced a Roman Reigns – Goldberg face-off for this week’s SmackDown. We expected that Reigns’ situation will be addressed during this segment but that segment did not air on the show. The segment was also removed from this week’s SmackDown preview, as well. There’s no update on Roman Reigns’ future in the WWE, to date.
Another Wrestlemania match was speculated to change during this week’s SmackDown. WWE announced a triple threat ladder match for the tag team belts which may not be on the card due to The Miz feeling sick during WrestleMania tapings. So he should be moved from the match which was not the case.
Currently, the same lineup is being advertised for WrestleMania which suggests that WWE may no change this match. Reports also hinted that it was The Miz’s sickness that forced Roman Reigns to back out from WrestleMania 36.
WrestleMania 36 event is scheduled to air on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET, via the WWE Network and pay-per-view. The show was pre-taped at the Performance Center and other venues without any audience. The final match card of the show is as follows,
