Former Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas has revealed the Indian batsman he is very fond of — and wants the Pakistan players to observe and learn from him. India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma is the player that Zaheer Abbas likes. Rohit has been an indispensable part of Team India for a long time now — and has to lead his IPL side Mumbai Indians (MI) to four IPL titles, most by any team in the IPL history.

Rohit Sharma was recently awarded the highest award for sportspersons in India — the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. The Indian hard hitter is currently in UAE training with Mumbai Indians for the upcoming edition of IPL. The IPL 2020 will be played between September 19 and November 10.

Rohit Sharma is a classical player: Zaheer Abbas

Zaheer Abbas, who is widely known as ‘Asian Bradman’  for scoring 108 first-class centuries, has heaped praises on Indian top-order batter Rohit Sharma. He said, Rohit has been phenomenal and he really likes his batting. He also asserted that he is a keen observer of the game and his wide range of strokes had proven to be the key to his success.

“Rohit Sharma is a classical player. I really like him. He creates strokes, plays on the merit of the ball. My eyes look at how he creates strokes, how he hits his sixes and boundaries. The players who have such a wide range of strokes can play in all formats, he rarely fails,” he said on a YouTube show called Caught Behind.

“If you mentally prepare for Tests, then you play accordingly, same is with ODIs and T20Is, it’s all about tuning your mind and Rohit has all the shots, so he doesn’t have to worry about that,” he added.

Zaheer Abbas wants Pakistan players to observe and learn from Rohit Sharma:

Pakistani legendary batsman Abbas wants the players from his country to watch their arch-rivals India’s batsman Rohit Sharma and learn his technique. He mentioned his idols were Hanif Mohammad and Rohan Kanhai, who he used to watch and learn from.

“If you say that Rohit Sharma is good. Then you should learn from him. Watch him, see how he plays, observe his technique. I used to watch and learn from Hanif Mohammad, Rohan Kanhai. I didn’t go and train with them, I just learned after observing their batting,” Zaheer Abbas maintained.

Rohit Sharma will lead the Mumbai Indians team once again in the IPL 2020. The reigning champions are all set to go for a 5th victory to defend their title this term. MI will face CSK in the opener on the 19th of September.
