Teams for ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to be announced in September:
According to a report in The Telegraph, all the 16 participating teams will have to announce their squads by September 16. Each team can have a maximum of 15 players in their squad. However, all the participating teams of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be allowed to travel with a contingent of up to 30 members.
As far as the official number of members are concerned, a team can have a maximum of 23 members comprising 15 players and eight support staff. Besides, seven additional squad members, at the participating country’s expense, will be allowed to travel with the contingent. These seven additional members can be a mixture of players, including net bowlers, and support staff.
Due to the Covid-19 situation, the ICC has also made it mandatory for each squad to travel with a doctor as part of the contingent. Any replacements can be made to the original 15, citing medical reasons, after clearance from a committee formed by the ICC during the tournament. Only players who are part of the 15-member squad will be eligible to play in the World Cup.
The September 16 deadline means India will have to announce the squad within a week of the completion of Asia Cup 2022. The Asia Cup is scheduled to start on August 27 and finish on September 11. As per several reports, Team India are unlikely to make too many changes to the squad that has been selected for the Asia Cup.
