The much-anticipated ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is not very far away. The tournament is scheduled to be played in October-November this year as Australia gear up to host the marquee event for the first time. Australia are also the defending champions, having won the previous edition by beating New Zealand in the final last year. The previous edition was held in the United Arabia Emirates.

The upcoming tournament will be the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup. West Indies are currently the most successful team in the history of the competition, having won it twice. On the other hand, India, Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka and Australia have won it once each. Team India will be desperate to lay their hands on the title this year, having not won it since the inaugural edition in 2007.

Australia, on the other hand, will be looking to become the first-ever team to win the title at home as well as defending the title. No team has managed to win back-to-back T20 World Cup titles so far or win it at home. The upcoming tournament promises to be a thrilling affair with several teams in contention to win the title. ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Schedule:

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will start on October 16 while the final is scheduled to take place on November 13. In the first game of the tournament, Sri Lanka and Namibia will fight it out at Kardinia Park, Geelong on Sunday 16 October. The Super 12 phase is scheduled to start on October 22.

Hosts and defending champions, Australia will play New Zealand in the opening match of the Super 12 at the SCG on 22 October. As far as India are concerned, they will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on 23 October. It will be the first World Cup clash between the two nations at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
