Only a few people knew about it the Champions Tennis League started on November 17, 2014. This tournament is an initiative by former Indian Tennis player Vijay Amritraj and is somewhat based on the format of the IPL. The tournament is from 17th November to 26th November and will be aired on Sony Six in India.

There are 6 teams from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chandigarh. The teams are divided into 2 groups of 3 teams each which will play each other 2 times, at home and away. The highest game winner (not set) in the group will play the final for Rs. 1 crore.

It is interesting to watch Tennis being promoted in India this way. With the introduction of the T20 format in cricket which got amazing response, this Tennis tournament has its own format. The match will be of just one set. The player to reach 6 games first wins. The tie breaker which by normal rules is played at 6-6 but in this tournament it will be played at 5-5. There are adjustments to the tie breaker as well. In international Tennis, the player which reaches 7 with a difference of 2 is considered to be the winner. Here the tie breaker points have to be 5 with a difference of two for the set and the match decider. Is this the shorter format of Tennis just like the T20’s in cricket? Come, enjoy a set of tennis and go home. The match gets over in half an hour or so and its a brilliant initiative.
