Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis stormed into the semi-finals of the women’s doubles of the Guangzhou Open tennis tournament with a straight-set victory over their rivals here on Thursday the 24th September 2015.
The top-seeded Indo-Swiss pair beat an unseeded German-Romanian duo of Anna-Lena Friedsam and Monica Niculescu 6-2 6-3 in the quarter-finals in just an hour and five minutes at the Guangzhou International Tennis Center late evening yesterday. Hingis and Mirza have been the top team thus far in 2015, winning five titles together – including two majors at Wimbledon and the US Open. No.1 seeds next play Julia Glushko and Rebecca Peterson, who had ousted No.4 seeds Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith in straight sets on Wednesday.
On the other half of the draw, No.2 seeds Klaudia Jans-Ignacio and Anastasia Rodionova – were equally efficient in their opener, dispatching all Serbian team of Jelena Jankovic and Aleksandra Krunic, 6-4, 6-4. The way Sania and Hingis playing together, the last seven months, has been a dream. It seems as if Martina Hingis came back to win titles and Grand Slams. Now it’s happening, so hopefully they can continue on this wave. They take every new match and tournament as a new challenge and probably the reason for their success so far.
