Praveen / 05 September 2015

The Indians after having a successful Wimbledon didn’t fare well in the US Open as both Leander Paes and Sania Mirza crashed out of the doubles event with their respective partners.

Mixed doubles defending champion Sania Mirza and Bruno Soares lost 3-6, 3-6, to Czech Republic’s Andrea Hlavackova-Lukasz Kubot in the first round. The pair was completely outplayed by Andrea Hlavackova-Lukasz Kubot in a match which lasted for 65 minutes.

Earlier in the day, Leander Paes and Fernando Verdasco lost their second round match 5-7, 6-4, 3-6 to unseeded American giant-killing pair of Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey.

Paes and his Spanish partner Verdasco got the better of Germans Florian Mayer and Frank Moder 6-2 6-3 in the opening round of the men’s doubles competition.

However, Sania Mirza stays alive in the tournament as she along with Swiss Martina Hingis will contest in the women’s doubles. The no.1 doubles seed are scheduled to take on Swiss Timea Bacsinszky and her Taipei partner Chia-Jung Chuang in the second round.
