Billy Stanlake To Miss The Opening Game For Queensland In JLT Cup
One of the aspiring Australian fast bowler Billy Stanlake will miss out on Queensland’s JLT Cup opener on Friday due to an infected toe. Stanlake played his first international last season after coming back from a severe back injury. The towering fast bowler who stands tall at 6ft 8in, had a mixed summer in 2016 as he earned the Aussie cap in One Dayer’s and T20I’s, which also got him an IPL contract for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Stanlake had the capability of bowling in the late 140’s and had his eyes set on 150Km/h before the injury struck the towering fast bowler. The 22-year-old is eyeing a coming back but will have to wait as the toe is yet to heel. Stanlake will play for Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming KFC Big Bash league. However, he is hoping to be fit for the third match against Victoria at North Sydney Oval on 7th October.
“I was probably bowling the quickest I ever have (before the toe injury) and I wanted to be that up-front aggressor and lead the way for the boys.”
He has not been played for the Bulls for two years now and is disappointed to miss out the opening match:
“It’s not good timing; I haven’t played for Queensland for a couple of years, so to go through preseason and get something like this and miss out is tough.”
Stanlake bowled only 60 overs last season and is looking forward to being fit this year:
“Last year, playing for Australia and going to IPL all of a sudden unexpectedly was great, but I didn’t really end up playing many games.”
The JLT Cup begins on Friday when Cricket Australia XI meets South Australia in Brisbane.
