Barcelona swapped traditional stripes with checkerboard print for the first time in their history.
F.C Barcelona have always had stripes on their jersey, but for the first time in their long history they swapped the stripes with a checkerboard print.
The club says ”The new design takes its inspiration from the city of Barcelona by incorporating the characteristic blocks of its Eixample district, home to some of the most emblematic buildings designed by the great architect Antoni Gaudí.”
The new jersey is getting mixed reaction from the fans. Some are disappointed to see the club not maintaining the tradition while some are happy with the new innovative design.

The kit is being launched under the campaign ”Talent takes different shapes” and starring the club’s own athletes alongside rising talents from Barcelona from the worlds of fashion, culture, science and cuisine.
About the campaign the club says ”The campaign is a tribute to talent and creativity, two iconic elements that Barça and Barcelona have in common. The city is a hub for talent that is expressed in many ways. Likewise, talent at Barça is diverse and multidisciplinary, and can be seen in the football first team, the women’s football team, the basketball, handball, futsal and hockey teams, its youth teams and also in its commitment to innovation and culture.”

The jersey is quite similar to Croatia’s National Team Home jersey sporting the white and red checkerboard boxes. The Croatian Football twitter handle took the opportunity and made a joke tagging the F.C Barcelona handle. The tweet said ”Nice try F.C Barcelona, but you can’t beat red-and-white checkers ”.
Croatia sent another tweet in which they mentioned Ivan Rakitic the F.C Barcelona and Croatia midfielder.
“Well, we are convinced that Ivan Rakitic will surely enjoy the new Barcelona kit,” they wrote.
