The Gautam Gambhir led India Blue won the toss and decided to bat first in the final of the inaugural edition of the pink ball Duleep trophy. Gambhir opted to bat first to formulate his strategy of the last match i.e. to bat as many days as possible piling up oodles of runs on the scoreboard thus putting pressure on the team batting second and winning the game in the end by any means, dismissing the whole team out or by gaining the first innings lead.

India Blue team made 2 obvious changes in the squad bringing in Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja in place of Siddhesh Lad and Mohit Sharma.

India Red made 3 compulsory changes and one additional change in the squad benching Delhi batsman Nitish Rana in place of Ankush Bains. Stuart Binny and Amit Mishra were in for Ishwar Pandey and Akshay Wakhare. Dhawan replaced the Andhra Pradesh batsman KS Bharath.
