Player ratings: Barcelona 3-1 Arsenal

Nitish / 17 March 2016

Arsenal faced off against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night in the reverse fixture of their round of 16 tie in the Champions League, as a place in the next round
was up for grabs. The north London outfit had to not only win the game but turn over the deficit of a 2-0 loss at the Emirates. The away side started the game well, yet things did not go according to plan once again as Neymar put the Catalan side in front in the 18th minute. There were no more goals were in the first period, though Arsene Wenger’s side wasted a lot of good chances to equalize, much like in the first leg.

Mohamed Elneny made it 1-1 in the 51st minute with a fierce strike though the visitors did not have much joy beyond that point. Luis Suarez added a second for his side in the 65th minute with a world-class finish while Lionel Messi made it 3-1 to knock Arsenal out of the competition in style in the 88th minute. Wenger was unhappy with the result though his team performed well on the night but were knocked out of the competition once again at this stage.

Did well against Welbeck and Elneny for most of the game, though was close at times on the ball and wasted a few good chances to score for his side.

Put in a strong solid display at the back, in a game which demanded him to lead by example.

Scored the opening goal for his side in the 18th minute with a coolly composed finish and invited quite a few challenges on him right through the game.
