The 10th match of IPL 2016 saw Kings XI Punjab welcome newcomers Rising Pune Supergiants(RPS). Both teams had lost their previous matches and so the match had an extra importance for both the teams. While Punjab were looking to register their first win, RPS were looking to bounce back from the defeat inflicted on them by Gujarat Lions. Batting first RPS set a target of 153 for the Punjab outfit and Punjab chased the target quite comfortably with the help of a late flourish from their star batsman Glenn Maxwell.
Let us see how the KXIP players fared:
1. Murali Vijay: 4/5
Scored 53 runs off 49 balls and along with fellow opener Manan Vohra, laid a solid foundation for the chase.
2. Manan Vohra: 4.5/5
Scored a quickfire fifty to ease the pressure off Murali Vijay. Took the attack to the opposition, hitting 7 fours en route to his 51 runs. Deservedly won the man of the match award.
3. Shaun Marsh: 0.5/5
His miserable form with the bat continued. Looked totally clueless against a M. Ashwin delivery which hung in the air and was bowled.
4. David Miller: 1/5
Came in a tricky situation when his team needed 41 from the last 5 overs but failed once again. Did a good work as a captain early on
by rotating his bowlers cleverly.
5. Glenn Maxwell: 4.5/5
KXIP were 97 for no loss at one stage and from there on, it looked like they would lose after the fall of Miller’s wicket but Maxwell took on Murugan Ashwin first and then his nemesis Ravichandran Ashwin to take Punjab home.
6. Wriddhiman Saha: 1.5/5
Had nothing much to do as Maxwell finished the match single-handedly from the other side.
7. Axar Patel: 2/5
Did not get the chance to bat and went for some runs in bowling.
8. Kyle Abbott: 2/5
Was expensive as he conceded 34 runs from his quota of 4 overs.
9. Mohit Sharma: 4.5/5
Easily the pick of the bowlers from KXP side. Gave away runs at an economy under 6 and took three important wickets which denied RPS the chance to score quick runs at the end.
10. Pardeep Sahu: 3/5
Bowled a decent quota of 4 overs conceding 31 runs against a strong batting line-up.
11. Sandeep Sharma: 4/5
Dismissed the in-form Ajinkya Rahane to set the tone for KXP. Bowled a tight spell of 4 overs.
