IPL 2020: Three Closed Stands Reopened In MA Chidambaram Stadium

Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) home venue MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai) is likely to get a big relief as its three stands can be opened ahead of the upcoming IPL season.

CSK is one of the most popular and successful teams in IPL history. Their official home venue is MA Chidambaram Stadium or Chepauk Stadium, which is also the home venue of Tamil Nadu cricket team and has hosted international matches for a long time. In fact, it is India’s second oldest cricket stadium after Eden Gardens (Kolkata). In recent years, the stadium has faced huge issues regarding its three stands which are I, J and K.

Due to the violations of regulations relating to public safety, the Supreme Court ordered to demolish the violating areas. Till that time, these three stands will also remain closed for the spectators. While this issue is continuously running from 2015, the stadium lost the hosting right of IPL 2019 final (but hosted the Qualifier 1 of IPL 2019).

However, now the Madras Cricket Club President, R. Ramesh has revealed that the gym of this stadium will be demolished soon and it will open up the three closed stands for the spectators. He is expecting that the gym will be demolished in February and the three restricted stands can be reopened for the IPL 2020.

Ramesh told Sportstar, “Now we will apply to the corporation and the CMDA for permission to carry out the demolition and we are sure we will be granted that since the gym is not a part of any heritage structure. Only the two old squash courts, the billiards room and the club office, the three buildings within the MCC complex, have been declared heritage structures.

“We expect the gym will be demolished sometime in February so that the three stands can be reopened for the IPL. Chennai should not, anymore, be denied international matches and the IPL final because these three stands remained closed. The cricket fans of the State are the biggest winners. Now we can have more spectators and more big matches at Chepauk.”

IPL 2020 will be the 13th edition of this tournament. According to the latest reports, IPL 2020 will run between 29th March and 24th May 2020.

KL Rahul Gives Away Man of the Match Cash Award to Chennai’s Animal Dispensary

India’s top-order batsman KL Rahul, who has received praise for his stunt in Team India, also is being applauded for his action towards animals. He donated cash award which he earned after winning the Man of the Match award in the second ODI match against Australia at Bengaluru.

Rahul had an impressive outing against the Kangaroos in the home ground. In Rajkot, he acted as a finisher, scoring 80 runs in 52 balls. He had also impressed one and all with his glovework, stumping Aaron Finch. His tremendous contribution handed him the Man of the Match trophy and cash price of Rs. 1 Lakh which he donated to the Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary (BMAD).

KL Rahul’s heartwarming gesture for Chennai’s animal dispensary:

Notably, Rahul’s kind gesture came to light after Shravan Krishnan, animal activist, posted a message on Facebook thanking the former. He also mentioned that this was not the first time that the cricketer had expressed his unconditional love for animals.

“It’s quite an amazing feeling to get support from your close friends for the work you do. Kl Rahul and I have been friends for close to 12 years, right from our U-17 state cricket days. KL was one of the most talented and hard-working cricketers from our batch and deservedly gone on to achieve much bigger things in cricket. After receiving the Man of the match against Australia in the second ODI, he promised to donate his cash reward of Rs. 1 lakh to BMAD,” wrote Shravan.

“And as he promised he donated his cash reward plus another 1 lakh towards BMAD. His gesture is going to help a lot of animals at BMAD and this is not the first time he has helped. He always messages me asking if we need help and follows every single post of our work. We at BMAD thank him for his contribution KL, thanks for being a champ on and off the field !” he added.

Meanwhile, Rahul, as an opener, had again brilliantly scored 56 runs in the first T20I match against New Zealand in Auckland. Also, he was given the duty of wicketkeeping as Rishabh Pant was dropped from the first T20I match in the five-match T20I series.

Watch: Funny Moment Between Rohit Sharma And Kieron Pollard During Chennai ODI

In Chennai, Kieron Pollard-led team was dominant over India in all the departments. The host failed to defend their target, and Caribbean registered the victory in the first ODI match. But the game had a funny moment between Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard.

Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard had a funny chat

The incident occurred in the sixth over when Kieron Pollard came to the opener, Rohit Sharma. Windies skipper was smiling and talking to the Hit-man. He also showed some dance moves to Rohit who was standing at the non-striker end. After which, Rohit turned to his opening partner KL Rahul and passed a slang.

India lost the first ODI match

Windies skipper won the toss and handed over the task to India to set the target. Within 19 overs, India’s top-order batsmen were out. First KL Rahul lost the wicket, and then the Indian skipper Virat Kohli moved back to the dressing room in the seventh over. Rohit Sharma also lost his wicket after scoring 36 runs.

India had a bittersweet day as the top-order lost their wickets early but the middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, gave stability to the team. Both the youngsters scored the half-centuries for the team and went on to put 287 runs in the scoreboard.

West Indies batsmen Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer went on to score the centuries at MA Chidambaram Stadium which helped them to chase down the target easily. It was a day for the youngster Shimron Hetmyer who played furious innings, scoring 139 runs in 106 balls. Shai Hope handled the one end with patience, showing his worth for the one-days.

Indian bowlers were unsuccessful in halting the visitors. Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar picked one wicket each in Chennai. Spinners didn’t get the help from the field and went wicketless. The fielding department of the team is also a worrying factor as two crucial catches were dropped in the first ODI.

Now, the two teams will head to play the second ODI match in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday (December 18).

Watch: Dog Halts The First ODI match Between India and West Indies In Chennai

At MA Chidambaram stadium, West Indies and India are currently playing the first match of the three-match ODI series. There was a special guest appearance during that game. It was none other than a street dog.

After registering the victory in the T20I series, the host India and the visitors West Indies are playing the ODI series. In the first ODI on Sunday (15 December), the match was interrupted by a dog for a while when Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were in the crease. The ground management, as well as Caribbean players, chased the dog who was running around the ground. However, the dog itself found the way to move out of the field.

Here is a video of that incident:

Meanwhile, India had a bad start against the West Indies. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma lost their wickets early in Chennai ground. However, Rishabh Pant had a good day as he scored his maiden ODI half-century. He built up a strong partnership with Shreyas Iyer to give stability to the team.

Some other incidents

Earlier, during the inauguration day of the Ranji Trophy 2019, in the match between Andhra and Vidarbha, a snake entered the ground. However, no players were harmed, and the ground staff were fortunate to send away the creature from the field. After some time, the match was started between the two teams.

In 2017, the match between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy at the Palam Air Force Ground was halted when a car entered the playing arena. It was an extraordinary incident in cricket history.

Recently, during the ICC World Cup 2019, the bee attacked the match between South Africa and Sri Lanka. The two teams’ players had to lay down flat on the ground because of which the match was delayed for some time. IPL also had some similar cases when a dog entered the field.

India vs West Indies: Three Players Who Can Make ODI Debut In Chennai

After registering the victory in the T20I series, India will head to play the three-match ODI series against West Indies series. The worrying factor about the Indian team is that the big star players have sustained injuries. It may give the chances to the debutants. West Indies’s opener Evin Lewis also suffered from an injury during the Mumbai T20I, so the debutant Khary Pierre may get the opportunity in the ODI series.

West Indies and India will play the first ODI match on Wednesday (December 15) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Let’s take a look at three players which can make debut in ODI series

Mayank Agarwal

The 28-year-old Mayank Agarwal made the Test debut in December last year. He got the opportunity due to the injury of Prithvi Shaw. This time he might get the chance in ODI series as Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out from this series because he sustained with an injury during recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019/20.

Mayank has experience of playing one day cricket as he is regular on the domestic side. He was the part of current champions Karnataka in the finals of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019/20 and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019/20. He has played 79 List A matches and scored 3869 runs at an average of 50.90. The team management might choose him as an opener in place of Shikhar Dhawan.

IPL 2019: 1st Match, Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – Match Preview; Weather, Prediction, Playing XI, Stats

Come this super Saturday (March 23), it’s going to be a curtain-raiser for the mega cricketing carnival in India – Chennai is the battleground for an epic and enticing encounter. Well, the beginning of IPL 2019 is all about the clash between the two heavyweights of the T20 league; Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Here, Sportzwiki will set focus on the match preview, prediction, stats and the playing XI of both the teams. This year, Indian Premier League (IPL) has a lot on an offer.

Aggression or Calmness?

With IPL being a breeding ground for the pool of talents, it is a challenge beyond favourites. From Bengaluru to Chennai, it’s the battle of nerves to look at.

The show from all-rounders and bowlers would set the tone for both the teams while going deep into the competition.

The most successful and popular domestic professional competition IPL has served as a massive platform for the youngsters who rose to the occasion against all overwhelming odds.

And, in between, it’s the contest of two astute thinkers — MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

With fans eager to back their respective teams, at the same time, the players are wrestling it out in nets–to set the stadium alight in the evening showpiece.

To talk about CSK’s campaign for this year, the Yellow force eye for a perfect beginning while taking on the RCB that finished sixth on IPL 2018 points table.

With CSK not having much on an offer with the bowling, however, they’ve seniors in the form of Dhoni, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo and Suresh Raina to shoulder the responsibility.

Also, in the all-rounder department, Ravindra Jadeja has been a force to reckon with. England recruit David Willey is known for giving a tough time to the batsmen. He’s there to tonk the ball hard as per the requirement.

What we could expect other than New Zealand pick Mitchell Santner, Kedar Jadhav could be a trump card with his unusual action.

However, batting reliant unit has to balance their side to choke RCB. Interestingly, Super Kings have a supreme record to their name against Kohli-led side.

RCB has the same tale; Kohli, AB de Villiers’ consistency matter:

In a bid to shed light on some essential elements of the RCB batting, Kohli has the onus on his shoulders–to carry forward the momentum, early on.

Besides, on plugging in loopholes, RCB has returned by making some amends, this time around.

Again, AB de Villiers inclusion has an impact and his contribution at the top will set plinth for the lower-order batting line-up.

Detailed Head-to-head – CSK vs RCB –

At MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai) 7 6 1 0/0
In the last 10 matches 10 7 2 0/1

  • On May 18, 2014, RCB has got better of CSK. Thereon, Super Kings went on to win six games on a trot against Kohli’s team.
  • In the first edition of IPL, RCB has won a solitary game against CSK at Chepauk on 21 May.
  • Raina is the leading run-getter in the IPL. He is 15 shy to scale 5,000 IPL runs.
  • Kohli is 52 runs to achieve 5000-run mark in IPL. Concurrently, he has accumulated 4,948 runs in 163 matches.
  • CSK has set the highest total of 208 for five against RCB on April 12, 2012.
  • RCB registered the highest total of 205 for eight on two occasions against RCB.

Pitch Condition:

While taking Twenty20 Chepauk surface into the consideration, it’s going to be full of runs. The bowlers have to fight it out in a bid to be on the top. Also, spinners have often sprung the surprise by deceiving the batsmen at the behest.

Overall, the Chepauk surface will offer assistance to batsmen from the start.

Weather Condition:

IIndeeed, it is good news for the fans. They will witness a 40-over match. The temperature would hover around 36-degree Celsius during a day and 25 in the night. Considering the temperature on the higher side, even though a short burst it’s going to sap the energy of players.

With different game altogether the foreign recruit have somewhat acclimatised to such conditions in the recent past.

The winds will blow at 22kph which somewhat will provide respite to the players during a clash of the Titans.

With better visibility, the humidity would be around 70 per cent which could benefit the team batting second at the Chepauk.

Match Prediction:

Chennai certainly has an advantage by going their playing XI.

However, RCB has a pool of talented players who are capable of spoiling any body’s party during the T20 extravaganza.

We expect it to be a closely-fought encounter with Super Kings prevailing in the end while looking at their strength and stats.

The team winning the toss would like to field first. We could put forth the prediction of the team batting first to score 170-plus on this particular track.

As of now, IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) skipper is already at home as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli landed in the town on March 21.

Both teams are battling it out in the nets to pick their playing XI for the heavyweight curtain-raiser clash.

The defending champions Super Kings are confident following a supreme show in the IPL 11.

Besides, the Bengaluru-based side would be aiming to make a count early on. They’ve finished sixth on the points table in IPL 2018.

Chennai Super Kings won't be playing their home games in Chennai, and instead would play in Pune.

IPL 2018: A Huge Disappointment for the CSK Fans – Harbhajan Singh

The Chennai Super Kings home matches for the ongoing season of IPL has been shifted out of Chennai to Pune.

The state administrators have expressed that they cant give assurance to provide enough security measures for the upcoming home matches for CSK.

It will be a big setback for the Chennai crowd. They had waited for two years to see their team in action. Chennai was suspended from playing in the league for two years. Their owners were allegedly involved in betting and fixing.

“The matches had to be shifted out of Chennai as police had said that they were unable to provide security in the prevailing situation. CSK is not averse to shifting base to Pune,” Chairman of IPL Rajik Sukla was quoted as saying.

Harbhajan Singh who is a part of the Chennai Super Kings outfit in this edition expressed his disappointment at the prospect of IPL being moved out of Chennai. Taking to his twitter handle he wrote,

“Heartbreaking more ipl games in chennai.. fans have waited two years for CSK to play in front of them at home..hope all the issues get solved soon and matches come back to Chennai soon…Thank u for your love, wishes, prayers would be needed all the time.”

The Committee of Administrator, Vinod Rai was earlier quoted as per PTI that the prevailing situation has forced them to explore four different alternative venues ready. Barring Pune, Vishakapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Rajkot were shortlisted as the standby venues.

As per reports, the source was asked the reason behind Pune getting the nod ahead of the other cities.

The source replied it was Dhoni’s home ground for the last couple of seasons. It made more logistical sense to shift the home matches there. Dhoni is used to the conditions in Pune and will be eager to make Pune their fortress.

IPL 2018: A Huge Disappointment for the CSK Fans - Harbhajan Singh 3

“There are only a few direct flights available from Vizag. If the team has to travel to Indore, then they had to reach Indore via Delhi. Pune has better connectivity, so it was decided that CSK shift base to Pune,” the source said.
