Shikhar Dhawan Ready To Comeback In The National Team, And Is Looking Forward To Scoring Big Runs

The Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan hasn’t played in the international cricket owing to his knee injury. However, his absence in the team roped way for KL Rahul who has opened alongside Rohit Sharma and given some good performances during the recently concluded home limited-overs series against West Indies.

During the T20I series, Rahul’s knock of 91 runs helped India post the victorious first innings total in the series-decider. In total six matches, three T20Is and three ODIs, Rahul acquired a total of 349 runs.

However, the hard-hitting opener Dhawan is all set to make a comeback in the national team. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) has declared him to be fit to play for the Indian team, although he will be given some time before Dhawan comes back on the field.

Before the West Indies tour of India, Dhawan went through a knee injury in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. It was later discovered that the cricketer ran through a deep gash on his knee and had to get 25 stitches.

Dhawan: My class is permanent, and I will score runs

However, Dhawan has now received a clean chit from NCA and will be playing for the Delhi team in the Round 3 Ranji Trophy against Hyderabad. The round 3 of the tournament will start from December 25 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

Nevertheless, the opener has been named for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka that starts on Jan 5. Talking about his injury and comeback in the game, Dhawan said that he still remembers his game and will be looking forward to scoring big runs in the upcoming series.

Injuries are natural. You’ve got to accept that. It’s fine and I don’t create a big fuss about it. The start-stop thing doesn’t affect me as I haven’t forgotten how to bat. My class is permanent and I will score runs.”

Dhawan said that he is looking forward to performing well in the upcoming T20s against Sri Lanka. However, the decision will be still in the team management’s hand. Dhawan will be opening in the forthcoming T20I series with KL Rahul as Rohit Sharma is given rest for the T20I game and will look forth to give his best.

“This is an important season. I would like to perform well in the T20s against Sri Lanka but the selection is support staff’s (team management) headache. They will do their job and I will do mine. Looking forward to scoring big runs,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.

Jasprit Bumrah Returns As BCCI Announces Squad For Australia ODIs

Jasprit Bumrah made his much-awaited return to the national squad as the right-arm pacer has been named in the ODI squad for the three matches against Australia. Before the series, he will be playing for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy match against Kerala from December 25. Apart from Bumrah, Shikhar Dhawan also returned to the national team. The left-handed batsman had missed the West Indies series due to a thigh injury.

The national selection panel led by MSK Prasad retained most members of the squad which played against West Indies. Rohit Sharma, who has been rested for Sri Lanka T20Is, will open the innings along with either of Dhawan and KL Rahul. The latter did come up with good performances against West Indies but might only keep his place if he does well against Sri Lanka in three T20Is.

Dhawan’s comeback meant Mayank Agarwal was once again dropped from the squad without making his ODI debut.

Since there was no Deepak Chahar, both Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur kept their spots. Saini came in for Chahar before the third ODI while Shardul had replaced Bhuvneshwar Kumar before the series.

India All-Rounder Hardik Pandya To Return For Australia ODIs: Report

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is all but set to make his comeback to international cricket as he will be part of the three-match ODI series against Australia. A report in Times of India suggests that he is fit and will be back in action next month. Pandya hasn’t played any form of cricket since the South Africa T20Is which took place in September.

He suffered a back issue during the series and underwent a surgery in UK. Pandya now seems to be fit and will be back in action in January. As was the case last year, the team management might ask him to prove match fitness by asking him to play a Ranji Trophy match before the international fixtures.

Pandya’s back has troubled him for long. During the Asia Cup 2018, he suffered a back issue and sat out for long before making a comeback for Australia tour mid-series. He later missed the home series against Australia just before IPL but returned for World Cup 2019.

Pandya was later rested for the West Indies tour due to the same issue and again sat out after playing South Africa T20Is. In his absence, the team management has tried out Shivam Dube in T20Is and ODIs.

His comeback could see Dube lose his place in ODIs as he was dropped from the playing XI after the first ODI, where he made his debut, in Chennai. Dube might keep his place in the T20I squad.

Apart from Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah is also in line to make his much-awaited comeback but he might only be part of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah suffered a stress fracture in his back and was ruled out of the South Africa Tests in October.

Shikhar Dhawan will also be back in action. He missed West Indies series due to a knee injury which he suffered during Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Maharashtra. India play Sri Lanka in three T20Is and Australia in three ODIs before flying to New Zealand for a full-fledged series.
