Royal Challengers Bangalore-RCB - Page 82

Royal Challengers Bangalore represent the city of Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise was owned by Vijay Mallya, who paid US$111.6 million for it. This was the second highest bid for a team in the IPL, next only to Reliance Industries Ltd.'s bid of $111.9 million for the Mumbai Indians bangalore cricket stadium records

Royal Challengers Bangalore have qualified for three finals till date and have lost all of them (in 2009 to the Deccan Chargers, in 2011 to the Chennai Super Kings and in 2016 to the Sunrisers Hyderabad). They also ended up runners in the now-scrapped Champions League T20 once when they lost the final against the Mumbai Indians in 2011.

The early struggle:
Ahead of the inaugural season, the Bangalore-based franchise picked up some big names in their squad. Rahul Dravid was the icon player and the captain while the likes of Jacques Kallis, Anil Kumble, Praveen Kumar, Nathan Bracken and Cameron White were bought in the auction.

However, their performance was totally unexpected. Despite having some of the best players in their ranks, they could win only 4 matches in the inaugural season, losing 10 matches and finishing second from the bottom in the table.

The improvement:
Ahead of the second season, RCB bought the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Jesse Ryder and Robin Uthappa to improve their fortunes.

However, their season did not start on a promising note under new captain Kevin Pietersen. But the team's fortunes changed when Pietersen left for national duty and Anil Kumble was named his replacement. At the end of the league stage, they had won 8 of their 14 games to make it to the last four.

In the semi-final they beat the Chennai Super Kings convincingly but ended up on the losing side in the final against Deccan Chargers.

In 2010, the Royal Challengers Bangalore finished the season in the third position and thereby booked their spot in the 2010 Champions League Twenty20. They progressed till the semifinal in the Champions League before being beaten by Chennai Super Kings.

In 2011, RCB came up with another good display but were eventually heartbroken. They made it to the final once again but ended up on the losing side as Chennai Super Kings won their second consecutive title.
The barren runs:
Royal Challengers Bangalore have been the perennial underachievers in the league so far. Despite boasting one of the strongest teams in the league, they always failed to live up to the expectations. The period from 2012 to 2014 saw the club performing poorly despite having the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in their ranks.

In 2012, they finished fifth in the table after winning 8 of the 16 games at the league stage. In the following year, they managed to win one game more but the position remained the same as they missed the top half of the standing once again.

Their performance only deepened in 2014. Ahead of the season, Virat Kohli was named the captain of the team. Before the auction, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli were retained from the previous seasons. However, the trio failed to inspire the team to a better season. The Royal Challengers finished a lowly seventh position after winning just 5 of the 14 games.

The improvement:
After three forgettable outings, the Royal Challengers finally had something to celebrate in 2015. They ended the league stage at the third position, with 7 wins from 14 matches. In the Eliminator, they defeated Rajasthan Royals before losing to Chennai Super Kings in the second Qualifier.

In 2016, they were staring down the barrel after losing 5 of their opening 7 games. However, they went on to win six of their next 7 games to finish at an unlikely second position at the end of the league stage.

In the first Qualifier, they defeated table-toppers Gujarat Lions. But their winning run came to an end in the final as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated them to win their maiden IPL title.

In 2017, Royal Challengers Bangalore had another disastrous outing. They finished at the bottom of the table after winning just 3 games during the league stage.

Home ground:
The home ground of the Royal Challengers is the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Team logo and jersey colour:
Initially, the logo had the RC emblem in yellow on a circular red base with the black text "Royal Challengers Bangalore" in standard format surrounding circular logo.

In 2009, the yellow color was replaced by gold. The Bangalore-based outfit also uses an alternate logo for the Game for Green matches where the green plants surround the logo and the text Game for Green is placed below the logo. The logo was redesigned in 2016 with the inclusion of black as a secondary color. The lion emblem in the crest was enlarged and the shield was omitted in the new design.

In 2008, the jersey color of the team was red and golden yellow. However, the yellow color was later removed and was replaced by gold. From 2010, blue was introduced on the apparel as a tertiary color.

In 2016, black replaced the blue colour as the third colour in the two versions of the jersey - one for home matches and the other for away ones.

The Bangalore-based outfit bought 21 players by spending Rs 48.85 crore. England allrounder Chris Woakes became their most expensive purchase at Rs 7.4 crore.

IPL 2016: Royal Challengers Banglaore vs Sunriseers Hyderabad predicted XI

The star-studded RCB will take on the David Warner led Sunrises Hyderabad in their first game of this year’s IPL. Both the teams will leave no stone unturned to seal a victory here to kick off their campaign with a win. Both the team has never won the IPL trophy and their players are striving to get their hands on the cup.

Talking about the RCB team, they have one of the best and a dangerous batting line-up in the world. The ruthless and aggressive opener Chris Gayle can always give a firing start to the team followed big hitters like AB De Villiers, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Kedar Jadhav and many more. They have the capability to chase down any target put in front of them as the batsmen never hesitate to take risks and gets full value for their shots. They have the power to clear the ropes easily.

Star players like Kohli, Gayle, and ABD, can turn the game in their favour from any point of time. They have the experience of handling pressures situations and know how to face the difficult situations. Especially the RCB captain Virat Kohli, he has done it many times for his team earlier and again the team will be hoping for the same from him. Bowling line up looks a little bit weak as they have already suffered a setback with an injury to Starc and looking at the current form of their bowlers it will be hard to show any trust on them.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad team made some smart purchases this year and surely those purchases will fetch them higher results. Unlike RCB, they have a balanced batting and bowling line up as they have experienced players in both departments of the game. To start the proceeding they have David Warner along with Shikhar Dhawan who can give a good start to the team.

The presence of Kane Williamson, Aditya Tare, Naman Ojha, Eoin Morgan, Deepak Hooda in the middle order acts as a morale booster for the team. They all have the ability to convert good starts into a big score. Bowling line-up has experienced player Ashish Nehra who will share the new ball with the young sensation Mustafizur Rahman. The presence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun, Karn Sharma, Barinder Sran adds weight to the team.

It will be an evenly poised match and will be interesting to see that who will have the last laugh.

Predicted XI:

RCB- Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Stuart Binny, Kedar Jadhav, Sarfaraz Khan, Shane Watson, Samuel Badree, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sreenath Arvind

SRH – David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Ricky Bhui, Deepak Hooda, Bhuvnehwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Mustafizur Rahman, Eoin Morgan, Naman Ojha, Karn Sharma, Kane Williamson

Video: Virat Kohli trolls Mr. Nags, leaves him furious

Mr. Nags is not in his usual ‘peas’ mood and in his previous video he announced a war with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli. He is furious now as he was not invited  for the jersey launch of the side.

He went to the hotel to meet Kohli but bumped on to the most expensive player of this season-Shane Watson, whom he greeted in Kannada. Surprisingly, Watson too replied him in the same language but after looking closely one will find he is just trying mimic what Nags is saying, which makes it funnier. After Watson, Nags got the chances to meet the 18-year-old Sarfaraz Khan a.k.a Panda, who ignored him as Nags is at war with the team.

Finally, Nags got to meet Kohli and denied the fact that he is at a war with the team. He went on to ask Kohli the reason for not having him on the side and the Indian superstar  came up with his answer. Upset at being trolled by the RCB skipper, Nags takes over the M Chinnaswamy Stadium and its staff, who stops work and announce “war”

RCB so far have done a brilliant job amusing the fans with Mr. Nags’ videos and there is more to come in this series. Will the war continue? Or ‘Peas’ follow soon?

Royal Challengers Bangalore launches their new IPL jersey

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the hottest team in the IPL, has launched their kit for 2016 IPL which will start from April 9.

RCB launched two different kinds of jersey: One for home matches and another for away matches.

The home jersey has black neck, and red middle while two sides are black which are separated by two yellow strips.

Virat Kohli was seen wearing the jersey in the image while AB de Villiers was  seen wearing the away jersey.

The away jersey has a black body and red neck.

The previous jersey was red and gold, but the new one has a black collar and while the old one had a golden collar.

RCB have never won the IPL. But, they have most exciting players in their rank. RCB will play their first match on April 12 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore against Sunriser Hyderabad.

RCB have players like Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers, Darren Sammy but they lack a sharp bowling attack as  a result they lost crucial match every year.

RCB this year will be looking for revival in their fortune. So they will wear two different kits under the hot blazing the sun in India .

Want to perform when I get my opportunity – Stuart Binny

The upcoming edition of the IPL is extremely vital for Stuart Binny’s career. Binny, now a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore needs to perform exceptionally in order to make an impression. He was a part of India’s squads for the ICC World T20 2014 and the 2015 ICC World Cup. However, after inconsistent outings for the men in blue, Binny was overlooked for Hardik Pandya, who did no wrong in his outings for team India.

The Royal Challengers outfit is studded with all-rounders as Shane Watson, David Weise, and Binny are three very talented all-rounders and are utility players. Ahead of the IPL, Binny interacted with the media and said that he was focused on doing well for the Royal Challengers. Binny also made it clear that he would perform whenever he got his opportunity in the playing XI.

“I don’t think there is any competition since Shane Watson falls in the foreign category. I am not too worried about whether I will get to play in the XI. My aim is to go out and perform whenever I get an opportunity,” said Binny. “At this point in time, I don’t know where I will be bowling and batting but what I know is that I will be doing both since that’s my role in the team. Whether I come in with the new ball or I come in after six overs, I am not too sure but I am eager to contribute well,” Binny added.

Binny often criticized for his inconsistent outings with the ball, said that he was working on his bowling and would add more variety. “For me, it was hitting areas which I couldn’t hit last year. Different teams bowl to you on different areas. I have learnt from the strategies other teams have used against me. I will be just working on countering those strategies and on hitting on those areas,” he said.

The Karnataka all-rounder also said that it would be imperative for the Royal Challengers to begin their journey on a high and build on that momentum. “Starting well is everything. If we start well and build on that momentum, our chances are good. On paper, we look a strong side but what matters is how you do on the day. Our slogan is ‘Be Bold’ and that’s the cricket we’re going to play,” Binny said.

We will miss Mitchell Starc – Daniel Vettori

Daniel Vettori, coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore has admitted that his side will miss the services of Australian pacer Mitchell Starc for the upcoming edition of the IPL. Starc was the leading wicket taker for the Royal Challengers in the previous edition and his absence will be definitely felt by the side.

“Everyone’s seen how Mitch (Starc) has bowled in the last couple of years, T20s and his death bowling,” said Vettori. “That’s something we’re going to miss. It’s difficult bowling at the Chinnaswamy and so whenever we had him in the team we knew we had those four overs up our sleeve. That’s a loss but it’s an opportunity for the likes of Adam Milne and Kane Richardson to step up and fill in that slot,” said the former New Zealand captain.

Vettori though was extremely satisfied with the presence of all-rounders in the Royal Challengers outfit. This year, they signed Shane Watson, the world’s number one T20I all rounder. Watson could open the batting along with Chris Gayle and could slip in a few overs as well. Along with Watson, the Bangalore outfit also signed local boy Stuart Binny, who has a decent record in the IPL.

“To have those guys that have the ability to bat in the top order and bowl four overs is a real luxury. You look at the teams that have been successful in the IPL so far — Chennai Super Kings with the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina and Dwayne Bravo and Kolkata Knight Riders as well have had them with Shakib Al Hasan. So we’re banking on the fact that we have six or seven bowling options. As everyone knows, the Chinnaswamy is a tough place to bowl at so to give ourselves those options is very important,” said Vettori.

Another significant addition to the side has been that of Samuel Badree, who was instrumental in West Indies’ win in the recently concluded World T20. Badree has been a world class bowler and can be a handy package with the new ball as well.

“We knew the quality he brings and his record is fantastic,” said Vettori. “We’re just hoping he recovers from his shoulder injury and gets back to the team as soon as possible. He’s in the air, back to Trinidad. That was always the plan. He’ll see a specialist there and hopefully we’ll get some feedback soon.”
