WWE RAW – Dominik Mysterio Shares Funny Story About His Custody Storyline In 2005

Former WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion Dominik Mysterio who is the son of the legendary professional wrestler Rey Mysterio recently shared a funny story about his custody storyline from 2005. He said that he was also involved in the storyline that he thought if Eddie Guerrero won the match he would have to go to his house forever.

The Custody of Dominik storyline is considered as one of the most weird storylines in history of professional wrestling. There was a long running feud between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio going on. The feud started on WrestleMania 21 and it continued till the end of SummerSlam. It was not all about the custody storyline but it came into existence before SummerSlam.

Eddie Guerrero claimed that Dominik was actually his son who was being brought up by Rey Mysterio. As a part of the storyline Eddie wanted his custody back and Rey refused to give it back. Therefore a match was booked between the duo at SummerSlam and the custody of Dominik was on the line, and it was a ladder match. Needless to say it was all storyline, and there is no reality in it. But the storyline was quite weird. Such storylines are nearly impossible to see these days.

It would not have been remembered very much, and it was not either. Neither by the fans not WWE itself. But it is again being talked about after Dominik Mysterio came back to WWE as a professional wrestler just a number of years ago. He was only 8 years old during the custody storyline in 2005. It also shows one thing, back in the time WWE tried different things. But nowadays there is no variety in storylines, unfortunately.

Dominik Mysterio who is the son of the legendary professional wrestler Rey Mysterio recently said that he was also involved in the storyline that he thought if Eddie Guerrero won the match he would have to go to his house forever. He said;

“It was crazy being a kid and being on TV. I think the most exciting part about all of that was being away from school. I was in the third grade and the last thing I wanted to do was be in school. I was getting to travel with dad and ride tricycles all around the arena so why would I want to be in school? I would come back to school and all the teachers would be curious on what my home life was like because they didn’t know if my dad was my dad or Eddie was my dad or if there was this actual custody battle for me.”

“Some of the teachers had to pull my mom aside or my dad aside when they’d come pick me up and ask them what’s the deal because they didn’t think it was healthy. Overall I think the kids were curious too like who my dad was but I had to tell them I’m pretty sure my dad is Rey Mysterio. They even had me hooked at one point like what’s going on here.”

“I don’t think I thought about it but I thought I would eventually go home with Eddie if he won. I genuinely thought I’d probably end up going home with him because I remember them telling me they wanted to do this storyline and my dad pitched it to me and I was all on board with it but I remember asking after like what’s going to happen afterwards. I remember thinking as a kid like what if my dad doesn’t win and I have to go home with Eddie? I never actually asked that but I thought about it. Personally, I would sit there and think about it.”

“There’s certain things that I remember [about being involved on WWE programming as a child] like after the SummerSlam match [Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero], there was a missed time cue there and I remember going in the back and Eddie was just losing it. He was just freaking out and I remember I asked my dad, I was like, ‘Yo, is he good?’

“I was like, ‘Is he angry because I’m not going home with him?’ That’s what I was thinking. I thought he was actually angry because he lost and I couldn’t go home with him. I was like, ‘I guess I’m pretty cool.’ But everything was just super, super straightforward and like I said, I think they just wanted a scared eight-year-old, seven-year-old kid and I was actually scared so it worked out perfectly.”
