This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicked off with the first quarterfinal match in AEW Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. The lineup was Adam Cole vs. AAA and ROH Tag Team Champion Dax Harwood. After a back-and-forth encounter, Adam Cole ended up as the winner and thereby he advanced to the semi-finale.
During the April 22 edition of AEW Rampage, the leader of the Undisputed Elite advanced to the quarterfinal round by defeating NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii. As for Harwood, he picked up the win against his fellow AAA/ROH Tag Team Champion, Cash Wheeler, in the opening round of the tournament to move into the quarterfinal match against Cole.
AEW Double Or Nothing 2022: Updated Match Card Following Dynamite
A wild ‘anything goes’ match between Jeff Hardy and Darby Allin to advance to the semifinals in the AEW Owen Hart Foundation Tournament was also hosted on AEW Dynamite. In that match, the latest AEW signee, Jeff Hardy ended up victorious over former TNT Champion Darby via a quick crucifix pin.
With his win, Jeff Hardy will move on to the semifinal round and he will face the leader of the Undisputed Elite, Adam Cole. The remaining matches from the men’s side of the tournament will feature Rey Fenix vs. Kyle O’Reilly and Samoa Joe vs. ‘The Joker’, a surprise entrant to be revealed at the time of the match.
AEW Dynamite: Undisputed ROH Women’s Champion Crowned
Update from women’s division AEW Owen Hart Foundation Tournament
In the first quarterfinal match for the women’s division AEW Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, Toni Storm and Jamie Hayter wrestled in a technical match. After the aggressive bout finished, it was Toni Storm who executed a finishing spike piledriver to get the pinfall win over Jamie Hayter. Now, she will compete against either Britt Baker or the “joker”, a mystery opponent, in the upcoming semifinal round.
It’s been noted in reports that Hikaru Shida is injured and she is being pulled from AEW Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Tony Schiavone taped a segment for this week’s AEW Rampage where he interviewed TBS Champion Jade Cargill with The Baddies – Kiera Hogan and Red Velvet.
It was announced during that segment that Shida is currently on the shelf and hence Kris Statlander will be replacing her against Velvet in a first-round tournament match scheduled for next Friday, May 20. PWInsider added that Schiavone said the injury occurred during Shida’s Philly Street Fight loss to Serena Deeb on the April 27 edition of Dynamite.
