At SummerSlam 2021, Becky Lynch made her much-anticipated yet surprise return to the WWE which was one of the reasons behind the PPV’s success. Bianca Belair was originally scheduled to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks, but then Banks was declared to be unable to compete.
This led to Carmella being announced as Banks’ replacement to take on Belair on the PPV. But then Becky Lynch came out and attacked Carmella amid huge cheers from the crowd. After taking out Mella, she then challenged Belair for the Title and beat her in 27 seconds to become the new champion. This move was criticized by many of the fans and the likes of WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella.
WWE Summerslam 2021 Reportedly Most-Viewed Event In The PPV History
Becky Lynch squashing Bianca Belair, a top babyface champion was meant to lessen the status of the latter one who’s been a strong champion since Wrestlemania 37 Night One. But WWE has a twist in the tale reserved, going forward. According to a report from PWInsider, the new SmackDown Women’s Champion will be positioned as “the top heel” on the blue brand.
Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair program to begin on Smackdown
The report also noted that Becky Lynch will initially feud with Bianca Belair, whom she defeated for the title at Saturday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. This is likely to be setting up a rematch between the two although there’s no update on when that match could take place. Perhaps, WWE Extreme Rules in September might produce that match.
In more update to the situation, word now is that Becky Lynch was the one who requested that she be booked as a heel moving forward, according to F4Wonline.com. This could be another surprise on this week’s Smackdown while retaining the babyface vs. heel dynamic intact for the upcoming rivalry over the women’s title. As of now, The Man is scheduled to be in attendance on tomorrow’s Smackdown where the heel-turn should be confirmed.
Becky Lynch has also been announced for WWE’s upcoming return to Madison Square Garden in New York City. MSG’s official website announced this week that she will be appearing at the Super SmackDown TV taping event on Friday, September 10. There’s no update on whether she will be competing on that night.
