Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer DDP Diamond Dallas Page who is also is former three times WCW World Heavyweight Champion recently thanked another professional wrestling Legend Paul Heyman for the big break he received in professional wrestling.
DDP came into the world of professional wrestling back in 1988. When he started his career he had no intentions of becoming a professional wrestler neither he wanted to come to the world to the professional wrestling. When he joined the world of pro wrestling he was already thirty two years old.
DDP Thanks Paul Heyman For His Big Break In Wrestling
And he did not join the world of pro wrestling as a wrestler, he wanted to work as a manager and that is what he was doing when he joined AWA, American Wrestling Association in 1988. He kept on working as a manager even after joining WCW in 1989.
He managed different wrestlers and Tag Teams in a very short amount of time. But soon WCW understood he was too good to be a manager. Eric bischoff gave an excellent example during Page’s Hall of Fame speech. He wanted the fans to imagine Paul Heyman as a 6’11” man and he was managing Brock Lesnar, how would it look like.
That is something happened during Page’s management career in wrestling. Soon he transitioned to a professional wrestler and he became one of the biggest names in WCW as he won a total of three WCW World Heavyweight Championships and also other titles.
After WCW was purchased by WWE back in 2001, he came to the new promotion but he has never been portrayed as a huge deal in WWE as he was in the WCW. He had a feud with the Undertaker which was poorly booked. After he lost the feud to the Undertaker he got a number of different feud to work but nothing worked out very well for him.
In early 2002, he won the WWE European Championship but there were not enough big plans for him and European title was the lower mid card title of the WWE so the intention of the promotion about him was quite clear. Page could never get his lost glory back after that. In 2017 WWE inducted into their Hall of Fame.
DDP Diamond Dallas Page who is also is former three times WCW World Heavyweight Champion recently spoke on Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions where he thanked another professional wrestling Legend Paul Heyman for the big break he received in professional wrestling. He said;
“Greg Gagne has been, since 1993, probably my biggest driving force to become a top guy. At the time, I’m nobody. It’s 1988, Greg Gagne calls me up and he says, Dallas, we’re going to give you a shot. We’re going to put you with one of our teams and we’re going to give you an opportunity.
“Bring all those crazy clothes you wear and a couple of those hot women, and we’re going to give you an opportunity.The only reason it happened was because Paul Heyman — Paul E. Dangerously left. If Paul E. doesn’t leave, I never get that shot.
“Dude, I’m going to tell you who smarten me up to all of this for it happened. Paul E. Dangerously Thank you, Paul E. Paul E smartened me up. He goes, ‘They’re gonna make you pull in your ponytail.’ I said, ‘They’re gonna what?’ He goes, ‘They’re gonna make you pull on your ponytail. So just go with it.’ When I got there, that’s what this was about.That was Bruce Prichard telling me to do that. You know, it’s like, I get it. But it’s all part of the business.”
