Ronda Rousey returned from an injury, last month and she quickly went back to the women’s tag team championship picture. Reports indicated during Wrestlemania 39 season that WWE had plans for her and Shayna Baszler to win those titles but the injury put a halt on it. However, they’re reportedly back in place with another major feud brewing in the background.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s intention always was to get the titles on Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler quickly because they have a specific story to tell in the future. It was added that the two real-life besties had pitched to become a tag team, but they also wanted to have the “ability to work a heated program with each other”.

Probably, the two will be having difficulties with each other, shortly to kick off the feud to culminate in some big-time matches. Amid a lack of competition, this program could be significant enough for the former Smackdown Women’s Champion. However, Ronda Rousey is also expected to take time off in the future which could be an obstacle in the feud.

Time will tell how the storyline will progress between the two former UFC fighters but for the time being, they’re likely to rule the WWE Women’s Tag Team Division. During the May 29 episode of Raw, a fatal-4-way match took place to determine the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions which was won by Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler as they toppled three more teams, Bayley & IYO SKY, Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green, and the brand new pair of Raquel Rodriguez & Shotzi.

As noted above, this win came after initial plans to have them win the titles at WrestleMania 39. It had to be scrapped due to the injury of the Baddest Woman on the Planet at the time. Instead, WWE made them win a Women’s Wrestlemania Showcase match.

Now that Ronda Rousey is the reigning tag champion, she did express concern over the lack of challengers in the WWE during an interview with The New York Post with the following comments,

“The lack of competition is really the problem. With how dismally shallow the women’s division is right now, there’s not enough women around here to keep us busy for a month.”
