Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long who had been the General Manager of Smackdown for a long time recently looked back at the famous Pipe Bomb incident of CM Punk and claimed that it was real.

The pipe bomb is one of the most controversial promos ever cut by any professional wrestling in the history of professional wrestling. It is not very common in WWE to break the fourth wall, but in this promo Punk continuously broke the fourth wall. Even mentioned in the promo that he was breaking the fourth wall.

Teddy Long Remembers CM Punk’s Pipebomb And Claims It Was Real

The fourth wall in professional wrestling are the things from outside of the kayfabe. Like talking about wrestlers from other promotions or doing something that is not related to kayfabe, like the infamous MSG incident. WWE is famous for keeping their kayfabe intact even outside of the world of professional wrestling.

But in this pipebomb promo, Punk mentioned other professional wrestling promotions like Ring of Honor, wrestlers from other promotion like Colt Cabana, he also talked about how John Cena was overrated back in the time. The promo was an instant hit and it was something not WWE fans were used to see.

This promo also cemented CM Punk as one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling. Many professional wrestling critics and fans consider the pipe bomb promo was the first actual step towards being the “Best in the World.”

It made in the biggest competition of John Cena back in the time. The way the promo was cut, and the way it ended, It looked like that it was completely unscripted. The promo might have been unscripted but it was preplanned as per reports.

Teddy Long who had been the General Manager of Smackdown for a long time recently spoke to Wrestling Inc. where he looked back at the famous Pipe Bomb incident of CM Punk and claimed that it was real. He said;

“If that was scripted or written then I know nothing about it. I never saw anybody give him any papers, you know what I mean? Any scripts to read. Like I said, there may be things that are done backstage, sometimes people don’t know, but I pretty much think it was a shoot. It was real.”

“Everybody was kind of looking at each other like, ‘Did he just say that?’ Because this was all brand new. We never had anybody to go out on live TV and to just go off on a rant like that and just speak their mind. So it was all brand new. It was all something that we’d never experienced and we’d never heard. So we’re like, ‘Man, this is too much.’”
