The Undertaker is undoubtedly one of the most iconic characters in the professional wrestling world. The brainchild of Vince McMahon became synonymous with this sport, over the year. Back in the 90s, fans weren’t quite sure whether to make this funeral director gimmick a lovable one but its charisma increased its popularity.

Wrestlemania 38 was a Dallas spectacle, this year. So, in addition to bringing back “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, WWE has inducted The Undertaker, a Texas native, into the WWE Hall of Fame which was obviously the fitting option for him. These appearances also helped in moving tickets for the WWE in a big way.

The Undertaker Wrestled His Proper Final Match In WWE 3 Years Ago

The Undertaker Turned Down WWE Hall Of Fame Induction In 2014 1

It appears that WWE originally wanted to induct The Undertaker into the Hall of Fame all the way back in 2014, the same year when he lost his Wrestlemania streak. Since Brock Lesnar was about to do the unthinkable, Vince McMahon and Co thought that it would be a good option to capture the Hall of Fame, at that time.

The Undertaker wasn’t finished as a performer in 2014

In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, The Undertaker discussed the approach made by the WWE in 2014. The Dead Man turned it down because he thought that he still had unfinished business in the WWE. The Deadman didn’t contend with the way his math with Lesnar ended and he wanted to re-engage in a feud which eventually happened, the very next year.

“My goodness. I want to say it was after the Brock WrestleMania. Yeah, I think it was after that. In my head, I couldn’t end on a match that I didn’t remember. You know, I got concussed and I don’t remember even having that match,” The Undertaker stated.

“So I wanted to at least have a match that I could remember. I kept working here and there for the next few years and then trying to leave on that upbeat note. Fortunately, we had the Boneyard Match and I said, ‘Alright, that’s it. I think I’m good. It’s time to call it a day.’ Now, here we are.” (quotes courtesy Fightful)

The Undertaker eventually went on to wrestle for six more years after 2014 to create more pleasant memories for the WWE Universe. His final encounter was the Boneyard match against AJ Styles at Wrestlemania 36. His legendary career got the ultimate recognition as Vince McMahon inducted him into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
