The Rock vs John Cena from WrestleMania 28 is considered one of the biggest main events in WrestleMania history. This is the only wrestling match in WWE history that had been advertised for a consecutive year. No match in professional wrestling history received such a long promotion.
The match was first teased at WrestleMania 27. John Cena challenged The Miz for the WWE championship and The Rock cost in the opportunity to win the title. This was the very beginning of this epic showdown. Soon the match was advertised for WrestleMania 28 and throughout the year WWE kept on advertising the match.

WWE legend and current commentator Michael Cole recently looked back at this match and talked about this amazing showdown. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show recently Cole remembered this match. On calling The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania: “Box office-wise, probably Rock-Cena at WrestleMania. The first one. One of the biggest stories that we’d ever done. Just that moment in time where Rock and John were in their careers. That was probably the biggest that I had the pleasure of calling.”
John Cena Faced The Rock On The Main Event Of WrestleMania 28
On some of his other standout moments to call: “But there’s been so many over the years. Roman Reigns has just had some incredible moments. Probably the greatest moment, though, was the night that Seth Rollins cashed in Money in the Bank at WrestleMania to beat Brock and Roman on the same night. That was probably my favorite moment.”
This match is still considered one of the best WrestleMania main events ever. The match received so much success that WWE decided to continue the feud for another year. At WrestleMania 29, John Cena and The Rock faced each other in a mega rematch. This time this match was for the WWE championship.
They delivered and excellent match this time as well, however, it was not as good as their previous encounter from WrestleMania 28. People still talk about their first encounter from WrestleMania 28 more than the latter one. Adding the title made the match somehow easily predictable and less exciting. There first encounter from WrestleMania 28 will always remain the better of the two.
